Mini boxes have suddenly stopped working

Dear team for some reason today both my sky mini boxes have stopped working. I’m getting the Home Screen with channel options but the little screen in top left corner shows nothing, when I select a channel there’s just a blue screen. I’ve tried all the resets to the mini boxes and the main sky q but to no avail. Can anyone help.

Hi Deepgreen

I know how you feel very frustrating, the only thing I would try if you already haven't is just unplug everything and start again firstly with your Sky Q then your mini box. It did the trick for me. Regarding your remote can only think of the obvious like yourself batteries in right way or re-pair with tv by buttons 1 and 3 simultaneously. That's about it from me with my limited knowledge.

Hi @A-590   To be clear, when you say "resets", you mean you have power rebooted them?

Re: Mini boxes have suddenly stopped working

Hi MQ yes I power re-booted and followed on screen prompts.

I did managed to get through to Sky where Thomas helped me loads. I unplugged mini boxes and sky Q box left them for 10 minutes then starting with Sky Q box re-booted.
Sky Q and one of the boxes successfully started. One of the mini boxes wouldn't start up though.

I think I was trying to sort them all in isolation to each other so the tip of powering them all down seemed key.

Many apologies if this has already been covered elsewhere. Many thanks for the response.

Re: Mini boxes have suddenly stopped working

My mini box has stopped working in that the remote control (fresh batteries) will not perform any functions from powering on onwards, except volume control.  I have three in all, two of which are spare until I get them set up, and none work.  The Q box is fine, and I have rebooted it to no avail.  When I press the mini box power button manually to get it to go from amber to green, there is a screen telling me about new functions available "from today" (with no confirmation date of when "today" is/was).   The remote will not perform any function to move within the options on that screen or exit to home, etc.

hi @deepgreen

If this mentions accessibility then this message seems to have caused a bit of a quirk so try this:

Press & hold 4 & 6 on the remote to set to Infrared only (so must have line of sight of the box)

Hopefully you can then dismiss the message

Then try re-pairing in bluetooth mode with the box by pressing & holding 1 & 3 together

If this does not work try a full remote reset by pressing & holdng 7 & 9 until the red led above the SKY logo button flashes 4 times

Then try the 1&3 to re-pair & pair with the TV

Re: Mini boxes have suddenly stopped working

I have just hit exactly the same issue with miniQ box has failed to connect and, bizarrely, the same issue with only one of three remotes able to control the box.

i have rebooted everything to no avail and have even brought miniQ into the same room as the main Q box, the sky broadband router and the extender router!!! Still miniQ fails to connect to any of the other three sky products.

please let me know if you have solution

Re: Mini boxes have suddenly stopped working

Hi Peter

i think it's doing things in the correct order, Myself like you did all of those things (moving round-re booting ect.

I actually rang Sky and booked a engineer (free weekday but £15 on a weekend). Anyhow before the appointment I had one last go.

1) on main Sky Q press home

2) Status

3) Watch on Sky Mini box

4) Reactivate

5) use your nearest Mini box to router

6) Follow prompts and hopefully you get reconnected.

7) Then the other one also became connected.

Fingers crossed for you but being honest Sky we're very good advice wise and had the fallback of engineer visit but didn't need in the end.

The remotes are paired to the box over bluetooth, they don't just use infra red like the old days, so it doesn't surprise me you had to use the correct one.

Having said that, I think if you get the line of sight bang on, the basics do work on any remote.

As @Chodley mentions, once paired the remotes work on bluetooth & only one remote can be paired in bluetooth mode to any given box.

Additional  remotes can be used using line of sight provided they are reset (but not paired)  or specifically set to Infrared

To reset completely, press & hold 7 & 9 until the red led below the SKY logo button flashes 4 times

To set to Infrared only,  press & hold 4 & 6 together (this will retain any pairing to the TV unlike the full reset above)
