Mini Box Connectivity Issues, Wifi from Main Box or Mesh Issue?

Hi,

I've had long standing issues with Sky Main Box wifi connectivity to BT Router. I recently had a new 2TB box after HD failure.

The isue I now have is that the mini box cant connect to the man box and shows no network. The main box sometimes has the same connectivity issue but not always. Even if the main box has connectivity the mini box often wont work until its reset (power off).

What I dont understand is that if sky use their own mesh wifi for the mini boxes, why do they fail when the wifi from the router to the main box fails?

I'd like to go wired and can use powerline intially and if that works put wires in. The sky engineers initially put one mini box in with a lan cable from the main box. If I go wired from the router to the main box do I jus link the mini on a switch on the same network? Any idea if a three way connector would work for this rather than a powered switch.

Just want to sort these issues once and for all as very frustrating.

Hi @Jinxy999

You just need a simple unmanaged Ethernet switch (Netgear GS105) .   5 port would be enough.

When all boxes are connected by Ethernet (either directly or through a simple unmanaged Ethernet syou can then switch off all Q box WiFi.

Start with main Q box and first carry out a Network reset with the Ethernet connected.
Network Reset found in Q box Home - Settings - Setup - Network.
Highlight Status and then select Reset on the right hand side. Select connect wired to non Sky Router (or Sky router if on Sky Broadband). Do not carry out any WPS and just wait for the box to connect. It may take a couple of minutes. If it does not connect there is an issue with the Ethernet connection.
As soon as it connects go into the Q box hidden menu and turn off WiFi.

To enter hidden menu press Home and navigate down to Settings but do not select Settings.
With Settings highlighted press 0 0 1 Select.
Go to Network to turn off both bands of WiFi. Confirm before exit.

Repeat the network reset on any minis in the Mini Home menu with the Ethernet connected. Again do not do any WPS and just wait for it to connect.
Once it is connected go into the mini hidden menu (same procedure as above) and turn off both bands of WiFi. Confirm before exit.

Thanks for your response oldfella.

I wont be able to get a Lan cable to one of the mini boxes but guess I could use pwoerline for that one?

Would it be worth using powerline for the main box initially as it will take some time to get wires there?

...and I guess other question is will it work intially with one mini box on Lan and others still wifi/mesh?

Hi @Jinxy999

Will only be reliable if you are on Sky Broadband.

On 3rd party broadband you would a have to connect the wired mini to your main Q box
