Regarding the Loud Static noise - Is it possible your TV/Sound System cannot cope with Dolby Digital ?

Try setting

Home - Settings - Setup - Audio Visual
Digital audio output HDMI
to Normal if not alrady set

I've had this problem too but I can't figure out if it's the tv or sky Q box...

What tv model do you have? Ours supports Dolby Digital Plus so I don't think that's the issue
