Lip sync issues changing from uhd to hd programmes
I've recently had a new box sent out and discovered uhd hadn't been properly turned on my old box - so wasn't getting the full picture quality just slightly better HD - the tv does a HDR thing in the top corner when on UHD programming now
2 weeks in and I've finally solved the uhd lip syncing ..... through tv and sky delays, however those settings don't work for the normal hd programming.....,
has anyone got any advice to stop me having to re do settings between programmes - it's getting ridiculous
is there a way either on Sky or the LG tv/soundbar/bass etc to fix settings for each mode of viewing?

How are they currently connected? Using ARC?

Yes optical/arc

Re: Lip sync issues changing from uhd to hd programmes
I set to bypass on the tv audio to work for normal and then manually +3 on the delay on the tv for uhd - which is a slightly quicker fix than +20ms on the sky box and +2 on the tv

You'll need to describe in more detail - as ARC is over HDMI, not optical

Re: Lip sync issues changing from uhd to hd programmes
hi
thanks - these are settings I'm using at min and almost right on most things
HDMI into the tv
then sound out from there is optical/hdmi arc
dtv setting is Dolby digital
av sync adjust I've got +3 on for uhd (sky and Netflix)
and then turn bypass on for it to be in sync for normal hd tv and weirdly Apple TV which is also showing as HDR on the tv top corner when programmes start

When I say sort of right still not perfect and think I'm now just paranoid watching things and focusing so much on lips

Why is optical involved at all here? Sound carried via ARC is an HDMI thing.

Re: Lip sync issues changing from uhd to hd programmes
that could be the issue should I be using a different setting?

Only use HDMI to connect from the TV's eARC port to the soundbar, if you still have sound sync issues then set the tv's audio settings to passthrough so the soundbar is then processing the audio, not the tv.

Re: Lip sync issues changing from uhd to hd programmes
If the Soundbar supports ARC then you should connect a HDMI cable from the TV's ARC socket to the soundbar's ARC socket.
Then other inputs (such as Sky Q) are connected to another (non-ARC) HDMI socket on the TV.
When configured that way the TV will send ('return') audio to the soundbar for any active display - i.e. an inbuilt app, tuner or external input.
That is the 'correct' way to connect it up - but sometimes there are sync issues where you can use a passthrough on the soundbar (if it has one), i.e. HDMI from Q to Soundbar and then Q from Soundbar to TV.
Optical shouldn't be needed at all.

Keep the HDMI connected but disconnect the optical cable..

Re: Lip sync issues changing from uhd to hd programmes
And add another hdmi ARC out fron the TV, as per the above
and use passthrough if possible so the TV isn't wasting time decoding the audio

A properly implemented ARC should delay the audio according to the picture processing time - but not all sets do this...
Personally, I disable as most post-processing as possible (I stick to 'film maker' mode) as such video processing can introduce quite noticeable delays as the system can store 3 or 4 frames before post-processing and producing an output.
