LG Magic Remote
Set up my LG C4 2024 model at the weekend, great picture, and the magic remote I've worked out how to do everything with regards controlling the Q box EXCEPT recording a programme. Any one out there using a magic remote point me in the right direction?
cheers

Re: LG Magic Remote
Hello. Sure. I have a new LG OLED evo as well. You made a great choice with that TV! To answer your query, use your magic remote to highlight a programme in the Sky Q TV guide, press the ‘OK’ button and when you are offered the ‘Watch’ button, just select it and press ‘OK’. The ‘OK’ button is the one in the middle of the arrow keys.
I just tried it myself and it works fine. Get in touch if you have any further issues.
While I am here and having answered the ‘on-topic’ query, remember OLED panels need some care because they can be subject to image retention. You can mitigate the risk of this issue by using pixel cleaning regularly (under OLED CARE on WebOS) and alternating your viewing between different types of content. Check out the help for OLED Care in the LG settings help on the TV.
Enjoy your Sky Q with that amazing OLED panel!

The manual pixel refresh should only be used if there is some image retention apparent on the screen, the standby background refresh should be more than enough for normal use. The manual process essentially forces pixels to discharge unevenly, which can lead to faster overall degradation.
The advice really is just let the tv do it's own panel care stuff

Re: LG Magic Remote
Thanks for your interesting perspective on OLED panel maintenance. My strategy sources from the TV help saying to run pixel cleaning regularly.
Image retention (or temporary “burn-in”) happens when a static image is displayed for an extended period. With OLED panels, each pixel emits its own light; if some pixels remain off (or at low brightness) while others are active, over time a slight residual image can appear.
Due to build up that occurs with regular use, manufacturers include pixel cleaning features for exactly this reason. Here’s a strategy that might serve well:
- Preventative Cleaning Schedule
- Proactive Routine: It’s a good idea to run the built-in OLED Care (or pixel cleaning) software on a regular schedule, even if you’re not seeing any issues. For heavy users or if you often watch letterboxed content, running a cycle about once a week or every few days during periods of heavy use can help prevent any buildup.
- Set a Reminder: You might set a reminder on your phone or calendar for a weekly cycle—ideally when the TV is idle (for example, overnight).
- Monitor for Visible Retention
- If No Issues Appear: If your display continues to look pristine, you might be able to space out the cleaning cycles a bit more.
- Immediate Action: However, if you notice any ghosting or slight retention—especially after watching content with persistent static areas—run the pixel cleaning cycle immediately.
- Take Advantage of Any Automatic Features
- Automatic Pixel Shift/Reset: Some OLED TVs incorporate automatic pixel shift or cleaning routines during idle times. Check your WebOS settings to see if your TV has these features already enabled. If so, they will further help reduce the likelihood of retention without manual intervention.

Re: LG Magic Remote
TonyG here seems to be using AI to generate these answers.
Obviously, the answer here doesn't actually answer the question you asked in respect of the Magic Remote setting up recordings on sky Q and you've been diverted into an entirely different direction.
On the subject of OLED burn-in, the technology has improved over the years - I've had my LG OLED TV for over 6 years now and there's not a trace of burn-in.
Pete.

Re: LG Magic Remote
Sadly there isn't really a like for like replacement on the LG remote to mimic on the fly recording so I'll keep using the Q one.
