Issue with signal & question about Sky Stream.

Hi there,

I have been having signal issues for several weeks.  A satellite engineer has been out, replaced the dish & LNB and done various other things.  I'll provide a summary of the issue below.

I like in a flat with a communal distribution system.  One day, I noticed channel 4HD and several of the HD sports channels were not working, although all the other HD channels were working, in addition to all of the SD channels (including channel 4 & sports).  Over the course of the day, all of the HD channels stopped working and then the SD channels stopped working the following day. When the dish & LNB was replaced, everything was fine, but then the exact same thing happened a few days later.  Channel 4HD & the HD sports channels initally dropped out, followed shortly by all of the other channels.

I was then provided a new SkyQ box and the same thing happened.  Was fine for the few days and then the issue returned.  It seems strange to me that the issue seems to fix itself when something is changed but then returns shortly after.  Anyone have any ideas what this could be, my satellite engineer is stumped (as is Sky).

Regarding Sky Stream, if I cant get my signal issues fixed - would Sky swap me over from SkyQ to Sky Stream?  I'm in contract with Sky Q until November 2024.

Thanks for any help / advice provided - much appreciated.

Kind regards,

Ryan

That's really weird. Did they check the communal distribution box is ok?

I'm sure Sky would be open to a switch mid-contract but prob extends it

Re: Issue with signal & question about Sky Stream.

Thanks for your reply! I'm not very clued up on communal systems but I do remember them saying they checked both switches in the loft.  Faceplate also checked and OK.  Its a really strange issue.  Was just posting to see if anyone had a similar issue in the past and had some info as to what the solution was.

Just some additional information which shows the strangness of the issue... when channel 4HD initially stopped working, I removed the cable from the faceplate and reinserted it and the picture came back for like 4/5minutes and went away again.  Then i repeated this and the picture came back for another couple of minutes before going away again.  Not sure why it's behaving like this - Satellite engineer has checked everything he can think of and Sky tier 2 also not sure.

The engineer did think it may be the switch going in to low power mode (as im the only person in the building with SkyQ using the communal SkyQ system), although he said he changed the configuration to remove this issue (unsure what he done!)

@Ryanmaley Certainly won't be a problem switching from Sky Q to Sky Stream, but make sure you've done your research into how Stream differs from Q, not least the fact that there's no local recording.
