The bit I don't understand is that the issue comes and goes. It works sometimes. I could understand if it was continuously a problem, but it's happy sometimes! Strange.

If there is anyone browsing this page who has an LG OLED TV and Sky Q who does NOT have this problem would be good to know your hardware type /version. Not sure whether there is any practical difference but helpful nevertheless to see if any patterns

I just purchased an OLED LG TV,
oled48c34la, and I have a different though related problem.
The UHD resolution is 8bit and I have no option for 10bit.
My Sky Q box doesn't appear to recognize the 10bit so there is no discernible difference in UHD channel from normal HD.
Very different from Samsung UHD 4K tv I had and when you switched between UHD and HD.
Any advice as to how I can get SKY Q box to recognize/connect to 10 bit signal?
Thanks

@lodge2000 you need to go into the menu on your lg tv and turn on the hdmi ultra hd deep color for the hdmi that you have the q box connected to this should then bring the 10bit option up

Thanks.
I checked that and it says HDMI 1 for Deep Colour is on 4K.
The SKY box is plugged into HDMI 1.

UHD still has a tonne more detail (4x the resolution) than HD. 10bit increases the colour range/detail, which does matter a lot too.

Yes I know but for some reason by TV won't pick up 10bit on SKY Q box but does on my Apple TV box.
Grateful for any other suggestions to fix this issue? Should I contact Sky or LG?

Are you sure your Sky Q box has ever supported 10 bit? Some of the older Sky Q may have not. Assume you've check both Sky Q and TV have up to date firmware?

Check what version of Sky Q box you have. Early 2TB V1 boxes are not HDR compatible. You need V2 (seperate power supply) or a V3 box for HDR (10bit) to work.

Thanks I solved the issue!
I just had to change out of the Ultra HD 8-bit setting and switch to a lower setting and then switch back where the offered me to chose Ultra HD 10-Bit.
A simple problem solved 🙂
