ITVX Slow response

Whenever I load a programme on ITVX via Sky Q the response time loading the app is long and reloading the program after a commercial break is huge with a black screen!
Anyone else experiencing long delays?

Yes, this is a known problem.
On my Sky Q mini and Sky q main V2 box it takes abut 15 secs to load to the ITVx menu. Then is fine and nippy navigating. Have premium, so not seeing the ad blank screen delay.

On Roku and TVs it loads quickly, within a few seconds.

Re: ITVX Slow response

Is there a fix for this issue?

Re: ITVX Slow response

I have same issue. . Screen either goes black or freezes, I disagree that it's "nippy navigating" the whole user/viewing experience is tedious and frustrating. . It's seems to be a Sky issue rather than the ITV X app. . Is a sky rep going to reply to this thread to explain?

Hi @charlottelouise   As this is primary a customer helps customer community, the simple answer to that question is almost certainly, no. However if you are looking for a response, then I would try the formal complaint procedure.

The explanation is really that Sky Q was never really designed for apps - it doesn't store the apps on the box like most other streaming devices. There is no app store for Sky hardware, be it Q, Stream or Glass, therefore Sky have complete control over them and host them on a server which your box accesses. This introduces extra latency or delay with communication, hence the slowness. Q is quite old technology now and is unlikely to be updated so you may have to live with it. The apps are there for convenience, not really for quality.

ITVX and other apps are quite slow on Stream and Glass too, again due to being server-based, so if you want the fastest app experience then you're better off using a dedicated streaming device such as a Firestick, Apple TV box, Roku or NVidia Shield.

Re: ITVX Slow response

I seem to be having an issue where it says it cant play the content due to an ITV X issue, however, when i then switch to the Smart TV app, it works fine.  If i then go back to the Q box and try the app, same problem.  If i try later it will work again.  That cant be an app issue can it, as it works in Smart TV but not Q?

ITVX is the worst of all the apps Sky uses, it is slow and black screens at adverts it needs much work as the app on my smart TV gives no problems. I know someone who has the paid for version and that gives no problems. I do wonder if anyone will look at the problems or just hope everyone upgrades.

Re: ITVX Slow response

Yes I get the same, the ads finish and then get a black screen for about 10 seconds before it comes back on!!

Re: ITVX Slow response,

Let's face it, ITVx software code is rubbish, when compared to AppleTV, Netflix or even BBC. All perform faster on the same Broadband, whatever speed.

I have seen this claim several times but it's definitely not true. The apps are all stored on the box and you can see this for yourself at http://192.168.??.??:9006/as/apps  (replace the ?? with the IP number of your main Sky Q box) it will show a list of all the apps on the box.

The app performance is poor because the Sky Q hardware is quite old, dating from around 2015 and wasn't very powerful even at that time.
