The qr code lets you chose a match on your tiny phone but not on the tv screen

I thought it was me being dim. Everything is phone driven so why do there continue to be shops selling massive tvs?!

You can still watch through the TV (assuming you have SKY Q or Glass/Stream) using the red button to lauch the Sports app (or manually selecting it)
I think the use of QR codes are there for people who wish to watch a second (or more) match(es)/court(s) at the same time on a Tablet or mobile - this is similar to with F1 where people can get driver views etc

Nope, Sky HD. Searched for the Sky Sports app on the new smart TV - doesn't exist. So it's another thing that only works for certain users. Red button worked for everyone.

The red button on SKY HD relied on extra Satellite channels so there is limited capacity for additional games. This has now been replaced by streaming via the internet which allows for far more games/mathes to be shown at the same time.
The red button on SKY Q /Glass/Stream launches the app but unfortunately SKY HD doesn't support this.
SKY HD can't run these apps - the reality is that all tech becomes limited in what it can be used for . Even SKY Q is now 7+ years old & SKY HD is older.
It is quite similar to older PCs , Mobiles & tablets that can no longer run newer apps etc etc that require the latest power & Operating systems

Yes I realise that but not everyone can afford to continually upgrade. Just the cost of switching on the tennis is outrageous. What does the type of Sky box attached to it, have to do with not being able to find the app on the actual TV? I thought once I finally got a smart TV, this sort of thing would be in the past.

Not all 'smart' TV's are equal. Older models (or even newer ones) may not support all apps. Indeed, some broadcasters may not release for a given platform.
Sky run offers to 'upgrade' for free.

This is an upmarket Samsung, a few months old. No free upgrade offered to me. Asked several times. Only been a customer for 40 years.

Sky have been running free Sky Q upgrades for some time for customers on older systems including Sky+HD.
Is the reference to Samsung regarding your TV? If so that has no effect on your Sky service.

As I said.....not when I asked several times over the last 5 years. Samsung is the TV. I don't get the connection with what apps it can find and my Sky box. I also just realised most of the centre court matches are on Sky sports + but it seems I can't get that channel. Pretty hopeless all round compared to Prime. Also before Prime, Sky was just ATP. Before everyone yells at me, it's not just me - I don't know anyone personally who is interested in WTA. Separate channels/providers was much better. I suppose if you get to choose your match it doesn't matter. Thanks anyway for all the replies.

I also thought I was doing something wrong. I keep pressing the red button constantly hoping that SS will come to its senses and bring it back!
Does Sky Sports really expect us to watch the last grand slam of the year on our small screens! Seriously!
Please SS bring back the red button!
Another complaint against SS that's very frustrating is when a British Player (regardless of rank) is playing all three tennis channels feature only that match even when a higher ranked player like Sinner or Swiatek is playing. Case in point was Katie Boulter's match yesterday shown on all three channels at the expense of Iga Swiatek match.
Why feature the same match on all three channels?

Exactly right. Can't wait for the Brits to go out so I can see a decent player.

That makes two of us 😂 I am impatiently waiting, 🙏 with 🤞that the remaining British players are quickly vanquished. By Monday they will all be gone!
