Hi, moving my sky q box to another house.

I am moving to a rented cottage 5 miles from my house, while I have some work done. The person previously in the cottage had a sky q box, so there is an existing dish. But when I connect up my sky q box & BT internet it says no satellite signal . I didn't contact sky as I thought I could just connect up to existing dish. Is this a common problem? Thanks

Hi @Nenon1968

Looks like the Satellite dish was used for Sky +HD.

Sky Q uses a different LNB on the dish and will not work

Furthermore it is against Sky's Terms and Conditions to use a Q box outside of your Sky Q account address.

You'll have to request a home move (and back again).

Hi, no it is definitely A wideband lnb, plus I know the guy before me & he definitely had the same sky q box as me. I didn't ask about terms & conditions. I just want to know if there's a reason I'm getting the no satellite signal message. Thanks anyway

Hi @Nenon1968

I understand you didn't ask but just making you aware.

You probably need to check the two F connectors on the two cables.

Make sure that the central copper conductors aren't not bent or touching the screen or casing inside the connector housing.

They should also protrude by 2 - 3 mm

@Nenon1968  Technically skys own forum is not the place to discuss ways of side stepping their own terms and conditions

following the information provided by @PandJ2020 is the appropriate cause of action for you to take

Most likely alignment - but Sky won't attend an address not on your account (thus the home move).  Alternatively you could pay a local firm to investigate.

Re: Hi, moving my sky q box to another house.

@PandJ2020, thanks, yes I knew about home move visits, but thought as it was exactly the same dish it would work & I could just notify my temporary change of address. Is there a technical reason that I have a no satellite signal message or is it that my box is registered at my old address or something like that ?? I know my signal from my dish is good as I've tested it . Bye the way I am an electrical contractor & install TV systems Roved realigned sat dishes in the past.  Thanks for the reply

Technically the box should work if it's the correct LNB and alignment.

Re: Hi, moving my sky q box to another house.

@SKY1992bf  I did not say that I was side stepping Sky's terms & conditions & will be speaking to them in the morning. I was just trying to establish the reason that I have satellite signal to the back of my sky q box as I have checked the strength of the signal with my meter but still get a no  satellite signal message. Maybe your just a T&C's type of guy & not technically minded to answer my query ? Thanks anyway.
