Potentially it can though this shouldnt happen too much, can I ask a bit more about your setup please i.e how old is your sattelite dish ? have you experinced these issues before and have you tried teh basic troubleshooting ? it is also worth pointing out that Sky Q is no longer avaliable to new customers (with exception) and that Sky will be moving over to Sky stream have you considered moving over ?

@Tommy2 Sky Q is still available to new customers but you do need to call Sky to order it. You cannot order it online anymore

@Tommy2

Not sure what you mean by (with exception) but Sky Q is still available for new customers but they have to call Sky. It can't be ordered online.

Re: Heat impacting sigbal

@Daniel0210  I signed up In a Sky Store and Sky Q wasnt avalible for new customers, they did confirm you could hwover get it if you call up Sky, and one reason people may have it is if their internet is slow as prveiously ours was too slow on copper at 4 Mbps. Im aware their perfence is Sky stream as satellite is being phased out.

That Sky Store is going against their own rules. It should be (and is) available via every means except the website.

It's ONLY website sign-ups that have stopped. Another user reported hre recently they signed up from a Sky kiosk in a shopping centre without any issues. [it was in this post by @Lizbythesea1  only 4 days ago]

There is definitely no "only for slow internet people" requirement or other artificial hurdles you have to cross to get Sky Q, so it's a shame if you came away with the impression that there were. I'm sure their statements were factual and very carefully worded.

Sky Q also has many advantages over the internet-only streaming options. Not least of which is local recordings, and access to all the broadcast TV stations which are not on Sky Stream (please, don't make the mistake of thinking they are all there!). If you want to record programmes to watch later; skip through adverts without having to pay an extra charge for the "privilege"; prefer building your own library of content that won’t disappear at a broadcaster’s discretion; or simply value having TV that works when your internet goes down - then losing recording functionality represents a significant downgrade. But a salesperson will never point those things out.

Re: Heat impacting sigbal

@mr.tickle @It's not only for people with slow internet, and I wouldn't say it is a "downgrade" Sattelite us becoming outdated hence why Sky haven't planned to keep using satellites when their contract expires. It also means we don't need to have an ugly terribly unsightly satellite dish right on the front of our house with cables trailing around.

I agree local recordings are useful but Sky haven't planned stopped them for a reason with the playlists. The internet is known as the fourth utility and is an essential service, I can honestly say the only time I recall the internet going down has been due to 2 faults and cable theft which won't be a problem now we're on full fibre.

I did have a Sky engineer round for the internet and he said himself they're phasing out Satellite TV.

@Tommy2

We accept that satellite TV services are nearing end of life and our household is one of those where we will have to decide the next chapter in our TV viewing journey. This was the reasoning behind Sky making hundreds of satellite engineers redundant a couple of years ago, but for the time being Sky Q is still available to new customers but not via online ordering.

@Tommy2  obviously we'll disagree and IMHO is it a downgrade with demonstrably less control. And no-one disagrees that Sky Q has a finite lifetime, and we know that Stage 1 of the carefully controlled slow "phase out" was the withdrawl of Sky Q from online ordering.

My main point which you seem to have missed was, if anyone says "Sky Q is no longer available" then that's completely false. It's not the case that you need to be an "exception" to get Sky Q. Also if anyone obstructs a customer in any way from ordering Sky Q when that customer phones up asking for it, it's a bad thing.

Re: Heat impacting sigbal

@mr.tickle  I think theres a bit of confusion here, I never said that it was complely unavalible hence why I mentioned tehre are exceptions such as calling up Sky, anyway I gave you an accuarte record of what was discussed in a Sky shop.

I know losing recordings isnt good hwoever, the interent is teh future and you can save some things to the cloud or keep bookmarks, again Sky Q is being phased out and this was confirmemd when Sky Q engoneer visited, even if you call tehy will still try and encourage you to have Sky stream as opposed to Sky Q, Sky stream is being developed further but Sky Q isnt. https://www.uswitch.com/tv/guides/do-you-need-a-satellite-dish-for-sky/
