Have to reboot my mini boxes pretty much daily

I have a sky q with two mini boxes. I live in a fairly normal size house and the boxes are not that far away from each other. I have good Wi-Fi all around the house coming from one router (not Sky).

Regularly I will turn on my mini box and it will have a black screen and say you cannot watch TV because of connectivity issues. I turn the box off and on again and then it works fine until the next time it stops working which is usually one today or so but not at specific times.

I don't see why it would be a connectivity issue because as soon as I rebooted it works fine and there's no glitching and no buffering.

A while ago sky gave me a booster which made no difference whatsoever.

I also tried going into the engineer menu and changing the 5 gigahertz to a smaller band but no help there.

Any ideas?

5GHz wifi doesn't work well through walls. And the boxes all talk direct to each other if you don't have SkyBB.

Recommend you try ethernet powerlines.

Thanks but that doesn't make sense because I can watch it through the walls totally fine all the time until it decides to do the black screen.

And then as soon as I reboot the box it works fine again.

Also I have my normal router running 5 gigahertz and I get coverage all through the house.

Your router likely has a far better antenna than a Q box.

Might be that your router is also trying to use an overlapping channel with Q at certain times and causing an intermittent problem.

There are hundreds of posts on here of people having similar problems.

What did you do with the Booster?

Yes I did see lots of people having the same issue it makes me wonder why Sky doesn't do something about it!

A product that's designed for home television that can't communicate through walls is not really going to work is it?

Honestly I don't know what I did with the booster I think I might have thrown it out because I plugged it in and it made no difference whatsoever.

Right now I have used a smart plug so that I can just power cycle the box every so often and that reconnects it but it's a bit frustrating.

I was doing that with my Q (would disconnect from my wifi every night at 0245. Still don't know why - well deep sleep maybe but it would almost never reconnect) and stumbled on using a wifi mesh node via ethernet from the Q to connect to the internet (diff problem from you but similar root cause: Q's networking software) and it has been rock solid ever since. And use powerlines for my minis.

I suspect Sky don't fix it because it's a very hard problem (or set of problems) to diagnose and solve in a product that's heading for obsolesence with the rise of streaming and internet based TV in general.

Some people have had success plugging the booster into the Q over ethernet, I seem to recall. Gives it better/stronger signal. Rather than having it attached to their router or just sitting in a midpoint in the house as a relay.

Mine does same every night at same time and days hdmi lead doesn't work with hcdc so I replug the hdmi and it comes on the sky engineer said it's because the Tele is 2 old.

I would accept this if I hadn't had sky before and it worked fine sky should fix it we pay decent money for it.

I have to reboot my main box every time I want to watch tv and then it will stop working and freeze the tv
