I'm having exactly the same issue activating HBO Max as Reedlovers and can't see a reply to their post.

If I try activating on my laptop I immediately get the "Something's gone wrong" message as soon as HBOMax opens. When I try on my phone, I get a little further and am asked for my email address. They email a code to enter, then I get the message shown about being in the wrong region. I don't have a VPN on my phone & I'm pretty sure that Wales is still part of the UK so don't understand why. I tried using a different email address but same problem.

Any suggestions?

@Wheelygirl1   Not sure how helpful this will be, but I'm also in Wales & I was able to activate HBO Max easily via my Sky Q box. A few days later, I was then able to upgrade my account to the top tier, also via my Sky Q box & also very easily. I haven't used my laptop or phone to activate HBO Max at all. On a Sky Q box, from Home, scroll down to the bottom for My Sky, scroll across to Sky Shop, scroll down to Sky Marketplace & there you'll see an icon for HBO Max. Click on that & follow the instructions.

Try turning off the router for a couple of minutes and then wait for it to fully reboot, that should refresh your settings.

I've just tried that but no luck.  I did manage to get a bit further into HBO Max and discovered that I was actually logged in with my Sky email & password but it was still refusing to actually activate as I'm not in the correct region for some reason. Tried logging out & back in but same error message.

Thanks for the reply.  I had already been through that unfortunately with no luck. See my reply above to the previous poster.

Finally got it sorted thanks to a very helpful customer advisor at HBO Max chat line.  The problem was that I'd used my email address abroad many, many, many years ago and it was stuck in that region for god knows what reason. They changed my email address to another one I have so that they could link my original email address to the correct region then I just had to go back in and create a new account with them. All seems to be well now, fingers crossed.

What do you mean you'd "used your email address abroad"? People do that all the time don't they?

Sadly, won't work for me either, if I follow the QR code onscreen it wants to use my prime account. If I follow Sky Shop it shows current package as basic with Ads but no option to progress to sign in. What do we need to do?

In what way is it trying to use your Prime account?

The QR code should link to an HBO page. (Or Sky, I forget which)

Re: HBO Max is Now Included in Most TV Packages!

Hi, it does bring me to HBO, I put in my address it states email not recognized and refers me to create HBO Max account and then brings me to connect your provider screen page and the provider shown is Prime video channel and you cannot select any other provider

yeah your email won't be recognised as you have no account at that point.

you have to create an account first. It doesn't let you "create account"?

Re: HBO Max is Now Included in Most TV Packages!

Correct it doesn't let me create account via sky, only prime

Not sure it needs to be via Sky, just generic "create account", that isn't offered at that point?

Re: HBO Max is Now Included in Most TV Packages!

Problem is if you dont link it to a provider, then the only other way is to set up a subscription,  and the the basic with Ads is 4.99 per month , given its free with sky hence why I haven't went down that route. Spoke to HBO and they say SkY need to look at it, spoke to Sky they said HBO , so stuck in no man's land.

Re: HBO Max is Now Included in Most TV Packages!

Unfortunately it won't let you create account with either signing up to subscription or via provider, HBO say Sky need to fix it , Sky say HBO, so stuck without a package.
