hi @Leebro12

Is the Main box also connected to the router via ethernet ?

If not you need to know that when your provider is not SKY then the mini & the main box must be connected on the same network both via ethernet (if using it). This can be mini direct to main box, or both main & mini connected to the router or unmanaged switch(es) on the same network

Re: Garden room mini box

Hi there.
thanks for the reply. My main box is connected to the main router, via etherneet, but I have been trying to connect the mini via wifi. Do I need to run another cat 6 from the mini to the main bt routher. I have connected a tp link ac1200 today. Can i connect from that. My ethernet from my main bt router runs to the tp link

hi @Leebro12

I am sorry but now I am slightly confused as your opening mentioned cat 6 from Garden room to the Router but you are now saying you are trying to use wifi to connect the mIni ?

Is the mini not connected to ethernet in your Garden room

Most people do find trying to connect a mini box to the main box via wifi is too far.

You may also need to be aware that when your provider is not SKY the minis won;t connect to your home wifi but instead a wifi signal generated by the Main box

Personally I am not that familiar with TP link connectors but AFAIK you can use Powerline  adapters anywhere you would use full ethernet (providing the mains cables are connected to the same MCU)

hi @Leebro12

I think I understand now.

If, as I understand it the Cat 6 from your Garden room is connected to the router (or elsewhere on your home network that also connects to the router) then you can use the same ethernet to connect your mini - you might need an unmanaged switch in the Garden room to allow this

Once connected via etherent you may need to disable wifi on the mini to force it to connect viia ethernet rather than it try to connect to your Main box's wifi - if so let us know

Re: Garden room mini box

Okay, so I am confused now lol. I have run a cat6 from my bt router, (main box)to my tp link ac1200 which allows another wifi access plus 4 ports. My mini is trying to connect to the main q in the living rm which is too far away. Can I connect my mini to the to link or do i need to run another cat6 from mini to main (bt) router in the house

Hi @Leebro12

Q boxes (if using WiFi) will not connect to 3rd party routers or 3rd party WiFi Access points.

If the mini and the main Q box are connected to the 3rd Party router by Ethernet then you should be OK

@Leebro12  providing you connect the mini via ethernet to the TP Link which is then  connected via ethernet to your router (which you say the main box is connected to via ethernet)  I think you should be OK

(i.e. The Tp Link acting as a switch in this case)
