Free upgrade to Sky Q - is it worth doing?

I posted this same query a year ago and got several very helpful answers, as a result of which I decided to stay with SKY +...

Now the same "free upgrade" offer has been emailed to me again.

Has anything changed that would it make it worthwhile for me to switch?

(I'm reading stuff about Sky Stream eventually replacing Sky Q, so is there any point at all?)

I currently have the 1TB Sky+ box and I also use a TV Link Magic Eye to watch the same Sky channel on a different TV.

I understand that Magic Eyes don't work with Sky Q - so does that mean I simply won't be able to continue to watch the same Sky channel on two televisions unless I pay extra for the Multiroom option?

Does anyone know if it's the basic Sky Q box that I'd be getting, or one of the better versions?

Finally, is there a Sky VIP phone number that I can use to speak to someone at Sky directly?

Only you can decide whether it's worth it.

Compare the package you have now against what the same package is with Sky Q. (I'm guessing the 'free upgrade' is for installation only).

If you have Netflix, then it might be cheaper to combine it with Sky Q.

If you're a sport or film buff and want to enjoy 4K/UHD pictures and Dolby Atmos sound, then you'll need Sky Q.

Just be aware that Sky Q doesn't have the reminder function that Sky+ has.

If you want Sky Q in 2 or more rooms, then you'll need the multiroom subscription.

Please also note that HD and UHD are seperate add-ons and will cost more to have.

@LoughboroughJimYour other questions have been answered however with "free" upgrades Sky often provide the early 1TB non UHD box and you have to pay extra to upgrade to the UHD one plus lots of hassle.

hi @LoughboroughJim

A couple of posts which may assist your decision - if you did look around a year ago much in my first link you may already know but I have added a few bits in recent months

SKY HD to SKY Q - A case study

which details an alternative to multiscreen (but do read past the opening for some slight corrections)

@LoughboroughJim

Be aware that for Sky, 'free' means no up-front cost rather than no increase in subscription: if you are provided with the standard main Q box plus one Mini box you may well end up paying quite a lot more each month.

Thanks. Very useful. I think I'll stick with my HD+ for the moment.
