Fibre broadband down in our area.

Hi, our internet is down and Sky say there is a problem in our area which could take 2 days to fix.

Main sky Q box is working but mini box isn't, can I use an ethernet cable from main box? Or can anyone suggest another way, or are we at the mercy of the internet being restored.

Thank you

@Rhinogirl I think Q mini boxes can be connected to the main box via ethernet.

hi @Rhinogirl

Even though your internet connection may be problmatic, it should not stop your mini from working for Satellite TV & Recordings

The first thing I suggest you try  is to restart your main SKY Q box :

Use the remote to place it into standby mode
Then remove the power to it (either switch off at mains or remove the power plug)
Wait at least 30s
Then re-apply the power & wait for it to fully restart - this may take a few minutes.

Once the main box is restarted do the same power down on each of the mini boxes.

If that does not work then possibly try a restart of your router ( I know it won;t connect to the internet) & possibly another restart of your boxes as above

BTW as @Anonymous says  you can connect the mini to the main box via ethernet but that should not be necessary if your mini normally works without using that

@Rhinogirl

For information, Mini boxes do not require an internet connection for live television, but they do need a functioning broadband router at the address to handle IP address distribution.

The router should still hand out local IP addresses and handle local traffic even if the WAN side is down.
