Thurs - Sun I watched every minute of the 35 hours total coverage of the Genesis Scottish Open on Sky Sports Golf. I record every episode and then watch them back when time allows.
The incredibly exciting and nail biting final round (yesterday) was enthralling and I was on the edge of my seat the entire 6 hours. It came right down to the last group, moving onto the last hole, with Robert McIntyre with the lead in the clubhouse, nervously waiting, tied with Rory McIlroy. Rory had just birdied the 17th hole to draw level and was making his way to the 18th tee.
AND MY RECORDING FINISHED !!!
I was absolutely furious. It was my understanding that Sky auto-extends recordings when the live programme runs over the scheduled finish time. It has happened quite successfully on my Sky Q box before in the few months I have been a Sky Q customer.
PLEASE PLEASE will someone let me know what happened? And whether there is anything I can do to prevent the same thing ever happening again?
I was angry, upset and disappointed for hours. Even more so when the 1 hour highlights programme, scheduled for 17:00-18:00, didn’t show and there was some other programme altogether shown.
I found out by chance this morning, because the result was announced on the BBC breakfast news, that I missed an incredible final hole and victory for Rory.

hi @Ridowh
The switch of channels that does sometimes happen is the worst because unless it is scheduled you have no idea & also series links also don't work across channels
I often watch the women's golf and that has a habit of being switched to a different channel at some point

Re: FAILURE OF AUTO RECORDING EXTENSION OF SCOTTISH OPEN
hi @Ridowh
I am sorry you missed the thrilling final hole which I was fortunate to watch live
Whilst SKY do often manage to extend some sports coverage, I would never assume it will.
I thus think the key answer we give is, as I say, to never assume it will be extended & if you think there is any chance it might overrun, to record the next programme or even more.
edit : P.S I watch Golf & F1 & both often do overrun (Golf often due to ties & playoffs) - I often record the next programmes if I am relying on the recordings

Re: FAILURE OF AUTO RECORDING EXTENSION OF SCOTTISH OPEN
Hello @nigea99 and thank you for your reply.
You are right, of course, I shouldn't have made the assumption. After five years with Virgin Media I was delighted to be able to nice to Sky and make use of the extended recordings. My parents have been with Sky for much longer than 5 years and to my knowledge have never had a problem with the auto extend before.
I made the mistake of assuming that it just worked. Rest assured I won't be making the same a mistake again.
I am somewhat calmer now than I was. It was the most thrilling four days of golf I have seen that I can remember. The whole event was on a par with the time, back in 1999, watching Jean van de Veld teeing off on the 18th on the final day. My (now ex) wife told me I had to stop watching because we had visitors! So I dutifully obeyed, quickly popping a video cassette into the recorder and hitting record. When I finally came back to watch it, later that evening, I found that, right after I had started recording and turned the TV off, BBC1 had switched their coverage over to BBC2, so I missed the thrilling end to that tournament as well.
I suppose this weekend was a trigger for the pain and anguish suffered 24 years ago haha

Re: FAILURE OF AUTO RECORDING EXTENSION OF SCOTTISH OPEN
We had the same issue where Chris Gotterup was standing over his final putt when the recording finished. To say the least we were very unhappy. Fortunately quick thinking made me check YouTube and was able to see the finish.
