Re: Download Failed - Remote Network Problem

I get this sperodically and it's usually always one of the lesser channels like Quest, Natgeo, Discovery etc that causes the issue, BBC, itv, can 4 etc doesn't suffer from thus issue.

Also to note when fast forwarding the adds on some of these programs (shed and buried for eg) it can freeze and lock up when ff via the right arrow button which skips 1min at a time.

I think sky rely too heavily on the channels and programs own time stamps /time coding which when incorrect causes issues and maybe this is part of the issue.

Re: Download Failed - Remote Network Problem

I have just finished with Sky Broadband and have just had Full Fibre to my house via Highland / Lothian Broadband. Sadly I am now experiencing this issue via my 2Tb Sky WBox. Have contacted Broadband provider but doesn't look as if they have a solution. Have contacted Sky several times. Engineers came to my home and I showed them the problem was DNS Server issue. They didn't know what a DNS Server was. The next guy got me to do a software update and was talking as if the problem would be fixed. I knew it wouldn't be and the issue is still there. Called them again and was basically told they wouldn't be doing anything about it. SKY are shocking. Just need to hope they will fix eventually. 😡

Re: Download Failed - Remote Network Problem

We've been testing in another thread and basically confirmed that if you use a PC/Raspberry Pi to redirect the DNS to always resolve to a non-Akamai server, everything downloads as expected. But that involves hardware/software and networking know how that a lot of customers (and even Sky employees it seems) do not have. Even with this proof, Sky are still trying to claim that it's an issue with our ISPs and nothing to do with them or Akamai, which is ridiculous as we all know that the issue lies with them blocking our IPs and that they are breaching their own contract terms by refusing to provide the service we signed up for.

Dalik hits the nail on the head. And I am about a month on learning about networks

I know I hate them...

That's a good months work....

The other thread, now 12 pages long, should act as advice / warning to all...

Re: Download Failed - Remote Network Problem

Thought I would chip I  with this:

Been with sky for many years including broadband not getting download failed that I can remember, some mini box technical faults

Changed isp to someone other than sky & now getting random download failed, remote network connection problem & occasional download failed, no subscription

This was from downloading Steven Kings under the dome TV series on MY 5

Multiple attempts usually end up getting the program. eventually.

Have also had the odd occasion when fast forwarding through adds, when resume prog get picture but no audio - backing out to menu & backup to prog tends to resolve.

Re: Download Failed - Remote Network Problem

I thin kI was the originator of this first thread! I use Rapid Rural. Since I changed my DNS to 1.1.1.1 all has been fine, though last night it refused to download the second episode of Ellis for my wife. Having seen the first episode I can only assume this was a matter of taste.

Re: Download Failed - Remote Network Problem

AJT,

Sadly, as you will discover, 1.1.1.1. is a temporary workround that will not last.

Essentially, every time you download on-demand you have a 50% chance of failure or success

The PC / PI fix is robust, works and doesn't fail. I've done over 1500 hours of test downloads with 100% success.

The second I turn the PC off I'm back to 50/50...

Re: Download Failed - Remote Network Problem

I've been running it for months without issue. I had one temporary aberration when it defaulted back to the original DNS, otherwise it's fine.

Horses for courses. C5 didn't work last night but that is maybe a message from above.

It's been a real trial for you though!

The film channels seem to be the most sensitive to slight dish alignment issues.  However, most of the films can be downloaded (ok, it's ironic).

I am just another Sky customer and my views are my own
