Dolby atmos problem

Hi all I've just got a htx8500 sony soundbar and connected it to my LG oled55cs6la TV via the hdmi earc ports. Soundbar to TV. But can't tell if it's playing dolby atmos (DA) as the DA light on the sound bar is not illuminated. And it seems that DA is off when the soundbar it on. When I turn the bar off dolby comes back on through the TV as the dolby atmos banner appears in the top right hand corner of the TV. Is it worth connecting my sky q HDR box to the sound bar and then soundbar to TV. If it is is the sky q box also connected to the TV via a hdmi. So to clarify two hdmi leads from the sky q box one to the TV and one to the bar. Then one from the bar to the TV. Will this give me dolby atmos. As you can tell I'm not very technical when it comes to things like this. I need a 5yr old to show mee how it's done. Thanks

hi @Argo57

you can try connecting the SKY Q box to the SOund bar as it seems your Soundbar has 4K video pass through - to try this the HDMI goes from SKY Q to the Soundbar HDMI in  - leave the Sound bar output connection connected to the TVs eARC port (To watch you need to select the eARC port on your TV)

However if you do this I think you will need to set the sound bar HDMI to enhanced mode to ensure you can watch in 4K/HDR  - see Page 17 of the Sound bar manual

Otherwise you will need to check that the TV is set to pass through Dolby Digital Plus - I haven;t yet looked up a manual for the TV to see what you might to have to look for

Re: Dolby atmos problem

That is very helpful Thankyou. Do I still leave the hdmi lead from the q box to the TV port 1 in place? And another hdmi from the q box to the sound bar or disconnect the q box from the TV and run it only through the soundbar.

Thanks

There is only one HDMI out from the SKY Q box & if routing direct to the sound bar just unplug from the TV & plug into the Sound Bar HDMI in - so the bit I have highlighted in Bold

BTW I have just been reading your Sound bar manual more - it is possible that the Atmos LED indicator only comes on if you have Atmos sound and you have set virtual surround processing is actvated   - so may have to read the manual as to how to set that on

Re: Dolby atmos problem

OK Will try that before routing the q box through the bar. As its connected to the earc port it should play atmos. I've been playing movies off sky cinema apparently available in dolby atmos but my light still isn't lit and as mentioned it appears disabled in the TV setting untill the bar is turned off. Sound from the bar is great but if the atmos is not on I feel there's better to come.  Thanks again for your help and time and if you have any further ideas I'd love to know

Thanks

Re: Dolby atmos problem

Hi have hopefully sorted the problem dug deep into the sound settings on the LG and found the on button for eArc  and pass through  buried very deep in the settings. Now have an illuminated dolby atmos light.

Will test it out at loud volume when no one's in bed with it being 1.30am 🤣
