Hi, I have a TP Link Deco X50 mesh for a large old house (ISP router in modem mode only) and Sky Q (2 boxes) has always been a nightmare connecting. I am actually switching over to Sky Broadband next week as they now have Fiber Optic lines in my area - yay. I will still keep the Deco Mesh though as it's very good and the house is a big old solid brick thing.
So I was thinking of a few new options:
1) Switch to Sky Stream as WiFi will be very fast. However, I cannot do this online as they say Sky Q is best option for me. Does anyone know if I ring support and complain about Sky Q - would they agree to change to Stream and remove the old dish? I am out of contract so could always cancel anyway etc...
2) Leave new Sky Router transmitting wifi and just have two wifi mesh networks going at same time. This would cause a bit of interference and it would be annoying to have to do, and confusing for mum & guests etc as I don't live here so my tech support is remote.
3) Buy two more Decos for about £100 and ethernet into Q boxes and turn off their wifi - seems like an awful waste of money and not sure why I should pay for it, the wifi is fine in both Sky Q box locations so they wouldn't be doing any benefit other than giving ethernet to the Q. So if she ever left Sky Q, we then have two relatively expensive routers that are completely redundant.
Any thoughts, am I missing something? I must say I find it bizarre that they never changed the tech in the boxes, fantastic with sky internet and router, but for everyone else it makes no sense and I would never use an ISP router...
