Replacing a faulty Sky Q box does cost anything. If you're being charged it sounds like you're upgrading your box to HDR capable perhaps.

Yes new box cost mines now obsolete.  Mine requires an engeneer visit to replace/repaire probably cost more for engeneer to be sent to fix

Obsolete?  I doubt it.

All hardware is loaned but would be replaced for free if failed.  Upgrades to later features (UHD/HDR) does incur a one-off charge.

An 'engineer' doesn't 'fix' a box: they just swap them out.

You shouldn't be charged anything in a like-for-like replacement.

I'm not sure what point you are trying to make. Sky Q boxes are loaned to you and if they develop a fault will be replace at no charge via either an engineer visit or a doorstep box swap. If you upgrade to a box, for example that is HDR capable from an older box that isn't compatible that could incur a charge.

Point I'm making it's going to take 3 weeks for engeneer to come swap/fix my sky q box. If I upgrade can get one posted out for £99. My point is engeneer visit will probably  cost more than new box.

But not to you. Engineer visits aren't chargeable.

I'd suggest calling back and politely but firmly pointing out that's an unreasonable period to wait, and that loaned equipment should be replaced free of charge.

The only technically obsolete box is the v1 2TB which can do UHD but not HDR.  If Sky cannot replace that like-for-like then they should replace for free with an HDR model, rather than applying the charge levied for voluntary upgrades.
