Why when I'm watching a series on record (Only Fools and Horses, for instance) does the 'Continue' feature hardly ever work? If I've watched, for instance, episode 3 of series 2, going to Recordings > Continue should bring up episode 4 of series 2. But rarely is this ever the case. More often than not the system will just pick a (seemingly) random episode.

Hi @Bill1968
The Continue option is normally used to pick up previously part watched Recordings.

I (& think some others likewise) have usually found the Recordings - Continue Section to be very unreliable.
I have known it to point to the next episode for episodes I have not completed and for others point to episodes I have completely watched and deleted !
My advice is do not use this section unless you really know it points to the correct episode.
Also I recommend using the buttons above epiodes in the Most Recent' section with great caution also - they in particular seem to point to the next episode when near (but not at) the end of an episode - I advise always using the buttons below the episodes instead even though it is more key presses

Hi, thanks for the answer. I did wonder this, but this method does (occasionally) select the following episode, so I assumed this was the intention.

Thank you. Glad it's not just me then.
NB: The forum's reply function doesn't appear to be working, as it's posted my replies separately and not beneath the person to whom I was replying.

You have to hit the quote button otherwise the forum gives no clue what you were replying to.
Rubbish, isn't it.
Yours were obvious from context luckily 🙂
