Connect sky mini in garden room to sky q

Hi all, we recently built a garden room it has a TP router and hard wired ethernet cable, we are trying to connect the sky mini box to sky q but can't do It through the usual way because sky q is too far away. Will it be an option to run an ethernet cable into the mini box which  is connected to our sky broadband router? Would that work? We would need to run the cable outside of the building so want to check before doing the work? Thanks for any advice

Hi @Gardensky

To what is the TP Router and existing hard wired Ethernet cable connected?

Also is your main Q box connected by Ethernet to your Sky router?

Re: Connect sky mini in garden room to sky q

Thanks for reading my post 🙂 so the ethernet cable is connected into the sky broadband router in the house and leads up into the garden room which is where the tp router is connected for WiFi. The sky q is connected by WiFi in the house to the  sky broadband WiFi. Does that help?

Hi @Gardensky

Yes, all is clear.

your best option is to connect a simple Ethernet switch to the Ethernet connection in your garden room.  To this you can then connect the mini and other devices.

A direct Ethernet connection from your mini to your Sky router should be OK and you can do this without laying another Ethernet.

All WiFi can be switched off in the mini by following the procedure below.

First carry out a Network reset on the mini with the Ethernet connected.
Network Reset found in mini box Home - Settings - Setup - Network.
Highlight Status and then select Reset on the right hand side.. Do not carry out any WPS and just wait for the mini box to connect. It may take a couple of minutes. If it does not connect there is an issue with the Ethernet connection.
As soon as it connects go immediately into the mini box hidden menu and turn off WiFi.

To enter hidden menu press Home and navigate down to Settings but do not select Settings.
With Settings highlighted press 0 0 1 Select.
Go to Network to turn off both bands of WiFi. Confirm before exit.

Re: Connect sky mini in garden room to sky q

Thanks Gardensky so I will need to purchase an ethernet cable for the garden room to connect the mini box directly to it because the ethernet socket is in the office side of the garden room and I can run it on the outside with an external cable to keep it looking tidy. I guess I also need to purchase a multiway for the thernet socket so I can plug the existing modem in the garden room back in to the ethernet and the new cable for the mini box. Thanks for the advice very helpful.

Hopefully a wireless access point rather than an actual router.
