Certain channels not working

Hi there,

I've just spent an hour on the phone to Sky going through various troubleshooting steps.

The issue is that certain channels display a blue screen saying there's a problem with the signal.

Engineer visit has been booked (mid Jan) but just wondered if anyone understood why only some channels are affected?

The first person at Sky tried to tell me it's related to the memory being nearly full on the Sky Q box.

Re: Certain channels not working

It's normal to lose some channels if your dish is slightly out of alignment (very possible after the recent stormy weather). There are three different satellites used by Sky and many different frequencies involved, so a slight dish misalignment will cause the loss of some but not all channels.

hi @David162

Unfortunatley it seems you have encountered a less informed member of SKY Staff  (in other words not correct - I did think of writing something less polite!) . It has nothing to do with the SKY Q box memory

Anyway,  all the channels are split amongst  dozens of transponders which are on different frequencies/polarities  and may have slightly different power & slightly different 'footprints'   which can  mean that a slightly mis-aligned dish can cause the break up or even total loss of some channels

For example we know GB News recently switch to a  weaker 'Europe wide' beam rather than a UK targetted one
