Cancelling Sky TV and broadband subscription - will Q box work at all
So, I'm leaving Sky and they don't want the Q box back. Will it be of any use without a subscription, for just viewing the freeview channels live? I know I can't record or anything.

I believe it becomes a brick. Sky have an obligation to recycle the equipment - you can still return it to them for this purpose.

I'd be very surprised if they didn't ask for the Sky Q box back as its only loaned while you subscribe.

There are reports they don't want some older boxes back.

Q is approaching end of life (and realistically reached market saturation a long time ago) : Sky just doesn't have a need for warehouses full of decade-old satellite boxes.

Surely it is still Sky's responsibility to make sure the equipment is recycled properly and doesn't end up in landfill. so much for being carbon neutral. 🙄

Even if they don't request the Sky Q equipment back, you can still print off a freepost label and send it to Sky for recycling. Details are here: https://www.sky.com/help/articles/recycle-sky-equipment
It does state on that page:
Good to know: We pay for the collection, treatment, and recycling to make sure any of our waste electricals are disposed of correctly.
So they are doing something to help.

Thank you for all your replies.
They confirmed in email they don't want it back.
I'll see if there is any benefit to keeping it, which I doubt, and will return it to them to recycle.
