COMMUNAL DISH ACCESS DENIED

Sky hd went down...    no signal...  told that this is now too old to get signal 

.needvto update..So decided on Sky Q.

However, landlord is being silly nit allowing Sky access to the  box/dish/system?

What can be done?.........     I am sure loads of neighbours  are on Q would they STILL need access???

This is really between you and your landlord / building management company. Check with your neighbours to confirm what they have.

With communal dish systems for Sky Q there used to  be an. adopter supplied so the Sky Q box could connect to conventional communal dish system, thus the Sky engineer did not need access to actual communal dish. However  I can not remember if was the Sky engineer installing Sky Q box or the owner of the communal disk system that supplied the adapter. Also in many case it was landlord of the property that were owners of the communal dish system but often done by independent satellites supper that had done arrangement properly landlord to install there dish system and they ones that probably supplied the SkyQ adapters. 

As suggested have a word you neighbours see how they had there Sky Q systems installed as there must be others in your block that have satellite tv and must have Sky Q because the Sky HD box were mostly retired quite a few years ago now and even Sky Q is quite old.

If the communal distribution multiswitches are still elderly Legacy devices, then a Sky Multiple Development Unit (MDU) trained engineer will require access to the central communal distribution cabinet that serves your floor, in order to install a Unitron dCSS-422 Sky Q adaptor to provide the correct feed for a Sky Q receiver in your flat.

If your landlord has upgraded their communal distribution to use modern dSCR multiswitches then the Sky engineer installing your Sky Q receiver will not require access to the communal central distribution cabinet that serves your flat.

@DaveDrizen A Sky MDU engineer is needed to fit ad|SCR adapter to the equipment in the communual cupboard if it is older equipment so would need access to the cupboard which is what @Netsky1 is saying the Landlord is not allowing 

@Netsky1 so yes the MDU engineer would need access to the communual cupboard if only to check what equipment is already in there

Sky q is old tech now.... I'm in a maisonette..  with 40 tenants ground and first floor....     I'm sure others have it not checked yet... do you think I could get away with just doing the engineer visit and should work... plug and play?

Or am I being g too simplistic....lol

I doubt any installer (regardless of product) will touch anything without the necessary paperwork.

If the communal multiswitches in your central distribution cabinet are old Legacy Universal LNB devices then you will not be able to have Sky Q without them being upgraded.

If the communal multiswitches in your central distribution cabinet are modern dSCR devices then fitting Sky Q should just be a 'Plug & Play' exercise.

A Sky MDU engineer will initially test at the communal Integrated Reception System (IRS) installation distribution panel installed in your property, and will quickly establish if the communal IRS installation is using modern dSCR multiswitches allowing him to install your Sky Q receiver without having the ability to access the central IRS distribution cabinet which feeds your property.

That being the and the landlord playing silly what's it, may be @Netsky1 should ask the landlord what is process to get satellite tv installed in his flat as be in this case the commercial dish is maintained be by a Independent satellite company and they are the only ones  that can have access to to it. As unlike normal dish set up, communal dish systems sometimes are owned by by separate company ( many a Independent satellite & tv company) and they make charge to use there dish system in fact to this day they may be the only one can install Sky Q to his block of flats. In fact as he had Sky HD though it was long time ago who installed that was it Sky or a Independent satellite company? As in those days Sky Tv was not installed by just Sky engineers but by independent satellite companies specially for block of flats with communal dish system. I know for fact as I knew somebody that did exactly that in the days of Sky HD, he had contracts with the landlord's of various blocks of flats locally, and when a resident wanted Sky Tv they had to contact him to fit and supply Sky HD, he done evethin from taking out the Sky contract, fittin the Sky box and Sky even supplied him with stock of Sky cards and then sent of the completed contract form to Sky.
