Box locked up every morning

I just got a new 2TB box  (32B108) after my original Q box's hard drive died. I've had it a week now and every morning it has its fan loudly whirring and the orange standby light on.

It won't come out of standby with the remote or the buttons on the front of the box and I have to switch it off at the mains and power on again.

Hi @sk00v

Try a Reset Settings in the Q box hidden menu.
To enter hidden menu press Home and navigate down to Settings but do not select Settings.
With Settings highlighted press 0 0 1 Select.
Only Carry out the first Reset (Reset Settings) as the other two will wipe all recordings.
After the Reset you will have to re pair your Bluetooth remote If you use one.
If you cannot switch the Q box on with the remote after the Reset press the Standby button (Amber led) on the front of the box.
To re pair the remote press 1 & 3 together on the remote and follow onscreen instructions to re pair.

Make sure that you are pointing the remote at the Q box when you press 1 & 3 together.

Resetting the settings will also reset:

Audio visual settings, such as picture resolution and HDMI control
Settings changed within the hidden engineer menu, include LNB type. If on a communal dish you need to reset the LNB to SCR in the hidden menu. After changing the LNB type you need to reboot the Q box.

Re: Box locked up every morning

Thanks @oldfella I should've added, I tried all the reset options in that menu and powering off the box and holding the standby button until it flashes. Also moved the box to a 'cooler' location to see that helped.

I tried changing the standby mode to 'eco', 'active' and 'none' and that made no difference either.

It works fine all day, happily on standby all day whilst we're at work/school and fine all evening. Then same again every morning.

Hi @sk00v

Looks like you need to contact Sky for an Engineer then @sk00v

Re: Box locked up every morning

@oldfella yes, I feared as much. Just frustrating with it being a new box and trying to arrange a convenient time.

Will give them a call tomorrow.

thanks.

I had this with a brand new v3 box. Had to get another which was more difficult than you might think. I think because the system hadn't fully accepted it had my old one back or something.

Re: Box locked up every morning

My box is quite a few years old and worked fine for a long time but for the last year has been doing the same most mornings.

I would say 2 in every 3 days requires power cycling first thing.

Phoned support and done all they suggest, change Eco mode etc. but nothing fixes it.

It's clearly a firmware bug as it gets in a loop at a certain time in the early hours either when checking for an update or when it gets some signal to do so from Sky and has no watchdog or ability to do a self reset  because otherwise if it were a hardware issue, a manual reset wouldn't temporarily resolve the problem.

They believe hard drive is faulty but being an electronics designer, I can tell the difference between a fast spinning cooling fan and a hard drive spinning at 5400 or 7200.

Seems the only fix will be a new box but there is too much recorded that I will lose and never get opportunity to watch and catch up as my new job means I'm away more.
