Audio drop-outs on Discovery Channels

You have not answered or solved the problem.

I have the problem with the normal discovery hd channel all the time and only discovery hd.

People are paying sky huge amounts of money and getting a channel that is unwatchable also we pay extra for hd package and dolby atmos so why would we switch sound setting to normal?

This is a broadcast problem and not anyone's sound setup or equipment according to you people at sky everything is to blame except sky themselves.

It is sky who supply the service and sky should be responsible for the product they sell and at the moment your product is not fit for purpose.

The sound drop out does happen during adverts too and I think sky should get their act together and fix this problem.

People have tried everything from disconnecting their sound bars and changing sound settings on both sky and their TV sets and the results are just the same sound dropout.

Come on sky stop passing the buck and fix it.

Hi @weetko

Welcome to the Sky Community 😊

I've moved your post out from the other thread, as that issue was resolved some time ago.  A member of the Community will be along shortly, to help you with this issue.

That being said, we asked for the following information on the older there, so it may the Community to understand your problem, if you can answer the same questions:

  1. Version of Discovery+ channel you are watching (HD, SD variation OR In app broadcast)
  2. Which of these Discovery channels has the problem? (They may be on different transponders, so it'd help if we knew which channels are impacted). Discovery Channel, Discovery History, Discovery Science, Discovery Turbo, Animal Planet, DMAX, TLC, Investigation Discovery, Quest or Quest Red, or one of the +1's of these channels.
  3. Can you provide an example of the Date / Time of the audio drop out that you've witnessed?
  4. How is sound put out in your home set up? IE Sound bar, TV speakers
  5. What sound settings are you using on Sky Q? IE Dolby Digital or normal?
  6. If you are using the Dolby settings and set this to normal, does the drop out stop?
  7. How frequent are the drop-outs during live broadcast?
  8. Does the drop out occur just on the show or also in adverts?
Thanks
Kev

Morning @weetko

In order for our support teams to investigate, they need specific examples. Thanks for the information that you've provided. Please bear in mind that someone new to the thread, doesn't necessarily know what information is required, which is why I added the request for this information. The more information that we know, the easier it will be for us to get a resolution.

For yourself, can you confirm the following, please?

  • Date / Time of the audio drop out - this will help the team investigate any logs that are available.
  • If it's live TV, Discovery has many channels that may be on different transponders - which of these has the problem? Discovery Channel, Discovery History, Discovery Science, Discovery Turbo, Animal Planet, DMAX, TLC, Investigation Discovery, Quest or Quest Red, or the +1's of these channels.

Thanks in advance!

Thanks

Re: Audio drop-outs on Discovery Channels

As I have already stated the problem is channel 126 Discovery HD on sky q 2t box.

It stopped for a couple of days hence reason I did not reply.

This sound dropout is completely erratic and there is no constant timing to it.

Example is I am watching gold rush right now Friday April 15th 2025 at 3pm and gold rush sound is OK but sound is dropping out on some adverts but not all.

I changed my TV sound settings from pass through to auto and it did improve with just a blip now and again but right now at 3.11pm the sound has started dropping again.

I watch the uhd football in dolby atmos sound and do not wish to be changing sound from dolby to normal when I watch different channels.

This sort of defeats the purpose when you have to go to setting and change sound for Discovery HD or Sky Sports UHD

Thank you for the recent report @weetko , I've passed the details to our support teams to investigate further.

Re: Audio drop-outs on Discovery Channel

DISCOVERY HD CANNEL 126

GOLD RUSH 3pm Friday April 15th 2025

3.21pm  sound drop Marie curie advert one time

3.24pm sound drop once on Minecraft movie advert

3.32pm sound drop during gold rush

3.35pm sound drop during gold rush

3.41pm sound drop once during tuferman advert

3.48pm sound drop during gold rush

GOLD RUSH 4pm Friday April 15th 2025

4.03pm sound drop twice during gold rush

4.12pm sound drop during gold rush

4.12pm all adverts sound OK including tuferman

4.32pm sound drop during gold rush

4.38pm sound drop during gold rush

4.59pm sound drop once during expedition x advert.

Here is a small example of what is happening as you can see there is no rhyme or reason to these dropouts.

My TV sound is set again to pass through connected to soundbar through earc and sky set to dolby digital plus
