2nd Q mini box connectivity

1st post so please bear with me.

Skt Q 2TB and sky Q mini - added 2nd sky Q mini in summer house in back garden.

All 3 hardwired connections via power lines.

Never had issues with main Q and 1st Q mini.

New 2nd mini Q connects to apps ok but keeps dropping from main Q box connection. No idea why.

All /any suggestions very welcome

Hi @DeePee

Are all Q boxes connected to your Broadband roiuer?.

If you are on Sky Broadband with Sky Q router then you can leave all WiFi if you want to use them as hotspots for other devices,   However carry out the following. And do not do any WPS.

When all boxes are connected by Ethernet you can then switch off all Q box WiFi.

Start with main Q box and first carry out a Network reset with the Ethernet connected.
Network Reset found in Q box Home - Settings - Setup - Network.
Highlight Status and then select Reset on the right hand side. Select connect wired to non Sky Router (or Sky router if on Sky Broadband). Do not carry out any WPS and just wait for the box to connect. It may take a couple of minutes. If it does not connect there is an issue with the Ethernet connection.
As soon as it connects go into the Q box hidden menu and turn off WiFi.

To enter hidden menu press Home and navigate down to Settings but do not select Settings.
With Settings highlighted press 0 0 1 Select.
Go to Network to turn off both bands of WiFi. Confirm before exit.

Repeat the network reset on any minis in the Mini Home menu with the Ethernet connected. Again do not do any WPS and just wait for it to connect.
Once it is connected go into the mini hidden menu (same procedure as above) and turn off both bands of WiFi. Confirm before exit..

Re: 2nd Q mini box connectivity

Hi Oddfella,

Many thanks for swift reply.

All 3 sky Q boxes hardwired to my BT smart hub 2 via power line & ethernet cables.

I have performed reset and disabled Wifi on main Q then 2 x Q mini boxes.

1st existing Q mini (nearest to main Q box) connects all ok. New 2nd Q mini box connects and sky signal can be stable or patchy (freezing / pixelated/ loss of sat signal)

Hi @DeePee

Lol

Odd and Old here.

Using BT HH 6 here.    Main Q box and one mini on full Ethernet and two further minis on Devolo 1200Powerline.  No issues.

All box WiFi Off and HH6 Smart Setup disabled.

Unfortunately Powerline can never be guaranteed and depends heavily on condition and complexity of your mains circuit

Re: 2nd Q mini box connectivity

@oldfella - oops sorry !

Watching apps (Youtube; Discovery+; Apple TV etc) streamed on 2nd Q mini  (and or on the UHD smart TV directly also in garden room) is fine.

So I'm assuming (rightly or wrongly ??) my hardwired ethernet connections via house mains circuit is OK.

BT HH6 smart setup already disabled.

Performed network resets on main Q then 1st existing Q mini #1 and then new Q mini # 2.

On Q mini #1 it connected straightaway ie goes to step 1/4 to 4/4.

Onto Q mini #2, despite wifi being disabled, resetting it goes to step 2/4 for WPS where it pauses for quite a while before going to step 4/4 eventually.

Once Q mini #2 is connected - streaming is fine but watching channels it's hi and miss....

Very frustrating

Hi @DeePee

As per my original post.

The Q box WiFi must be turned off immediately following successful connection following a Network reset(without carrying out any WPS).

If a Q box does not connect without WPS there is an issue with the Ethernet/Powerline.
