How do Activity Zones work on Sky Smart Cameras and Doorbells?

If you’ve got a Sky Smart Doorbell or Indoor Camera, there’s a handy feature that can help you cut down on unnecessary alerts and focus on what matters most — Activity Zones.

Activity Zones let you choose exactly where your camera or doorbell should look for movement. That means fewer notifications for passing cars, pets or background movement, and more alerts for the areas you actually care about.

Here’s how it works, and how to set it up.

What are Activity Zones?

Activity Zones allow you to draw a specific area within your camera’s view. When movement is detected inside that zone, your device will:

• Start recording
• Send you a notification (if enabled)

Anything outside the zone is ignored — helping keep alerts relevant and useful.

You can also flip the zone to exclude an area instead, which is great if there’s a busy road or walkway you don’t want triggering alerts.

 

Using Activity Zones on your Sky Smart Doorbell

With the Smart Doorbell, Activity Zones work alongside person detection, so you’re alerted when someone enters the area you’ve chosen.

Here’s how to set it up:

1. Open the Smart Home app
2. Select your Smart Doorbell
3. Tap the settings icon in the top‑right of the live stream
4. Under Smart Doorbell Settings, choose Person Detection Settings
5. Select Activity Zones
6. Toggle Activity Zones on
7. A blue square will appear — this is your active detection area
8. Drag the square and pull the corners to cover the area you want
9. Select Save to apply your changes

Any motion detected inside the blue square will trigger recording and notifications. 

Tip: If you’d rather mark an area you don’t want detected, tap the flip button to invert the zone.

Using Activity Zones on your Indoor Camera

Activity Zones also work on Sky Indoor Cameras, helping you focus detection on specific parts of a room.

To use Activity Zones, your Indoor Camera needs to be armed — either manually, on a schedule, or using auto‑arming.

 

Here’s how to set it up:

1. Open the Smart Home app
2. Select your Indoor Camera
3. Tap the settings icon in the top‑right of the live stream
4. Under Configuration, choose Set/Edit Activity Zone
5. Toggle Activity Zones on
6. Use the blue square to mark where movement should trigger alerts
7. Drag and resize the square as needed
8. Select Save — changes won’t apply if you exit without saving

Just like with the doorbell, you can tap flip to turn the blue square into an excluded area instead.
