Re: sky mobile swap is basically a scam

@skypuffy - I absolutely agree to take pictures and video to demonstrate there's no damage to the device before sending. As for warranty, I can't fault Samsung, they've recently been unable to resolve an issue with my s21 and have either offered to clear my contract or offer an upgraded phone.

Re: sky mobile swap is basically a scam

@Gordonuks - that's good news Samsung are offering this solution to you!

How long do you have left on the contract? Are they offering you a new S21 or the S22? I would go for the latter.

Re: sky mobile swap is basically a scam

@skypuffy They offered me a Fold 3 512gb in place of the S21. And they also gave me Amazon vouchers to get a temporary phone whilst they either resolved the phone issues or replaced it. I can't really complain.

@Gordonuks - not bad at all. You're right, can't really complain about that 😉

Re: sky mobile swap is basically a scam

I have also suffered the swap scam, immaculate iphone 11 returned and half the quoted trade in offered due to 'screen burn' told them to shove it in the cooling off period and asked for my old phone back.

Re: sky mobile swap is basically a scam

I am experiencing the same issues. I was offered £20 but didn't receive the return packaging (twice) and had to write a complaint. I had a call from Sky and the guy said he couldn't deal with my enquiry but wiuld put  me through???? I spoke to the mobile team and was told the value was now £18. I asked how that worked but it was strange that there was only £18 left on my contract. She said that they may give me a goodwill adjustment. I received the packaging hurrah, returned the phone and was shocked to be told there was additional damage. The phone had never left my kitchen, my husband didn't like it and ended up using my old phone. He had maybe made one call to test it and tried taking photos but they didn't appear on the phone but went to cloud storage which is why he didn't like it. He had bought a cover for it and it had been charged up once only yet they deemed the value to be £9 only. Their email states "go into My Account to choose how you want to continue" but I cannot find where the choices and details of damage are. I have replied to the email asking for details of the damage but I am not holding my breath - they will either reply or send the phone back, eventually, maybe. I have championed Sky in the past but this experience damages my opinion.

Re: sky mobile swap is basically a scam

Further to my last note. The phone has been returned to me and it is undamaged. I have completed the complaints form and we shall see. SKY needs to act on these comments, there are too many people with the same complaint - many others probably couldn't be bothered. This swap scheme is not working and is damaging to the SKY reputation. There is no excuse for what has been happening here and saying there is damage where there isn't is fraud.

Re: sky mobile swap is basically a scam

The same has happened to me. Immaculate iPhone 11 swapped for and iPhone 13. They've returned the phone saying there's a hardware fault and it will cost me £106.
I'm like a Rottweiler with this. I just know I'm being had. I'm taking the phone to the Apple store tomorrow to be checked. If they're lying I am going to seek legal advice and share it EVERYWHERE.
It's happening to way to many people to be genuine!

  • I agree they are only offering me £30 to swap my Samsung S10  . Most of the recycling sites like envirophone are offering over £100.

Re: sky mobile swap is basically a scam

I just upgraded my partners iPhone 12 Pro Max 11 months old. This was always kept in a military grade folio case and screen protector fitted. The phone when placed alongside the replacement 13 pro max was indistinguishable from the 12. I returned in its original box and received an email stating the phone had damage and the price offered dropped by 50%. £222 a fair sum to be losing. I challenged sky and was told it had screen burn. This is utter rubbish and I have told them to return the phone to me so I can sell privately. This handset is worth over £500 in good condition. I will be getting Apple to inspect and give me there take on this. I suggest anyone else that returns there phone and gets the standard 50% damage email challenges to get Sky to identify the damage. It's very likely they will quote screen burn as the reason for the reduction in price. I am sure there may be some sort of Sky scam in use and it should be challenged.

I challenged it also and they eventually backed down. Something is very, very wrong with this!

Come on Sky! My phone was in a case with a screen protector from day one, I got it out the box and put it straight in but as you say Reason for change: NO FAULT FOUND? So I send you an unmarked pristine phone and because there is NO FAULT FOUND you send me an email Ididn't spot for 9 days, when I called up I was told there were scratches or chips on it. After a few conversations Sky said they didn't receive it??? They sent me a link to post the above photo. They are apparently calling me back within 24 hours, currently 25 hours ago...

Re: sky mobile swap is basically a scam

I just swapped my one year old apple iPhone 13 pro max to upgrade to the new iPhone 14 pro max and was offered £585 trade in for it and it was immaculate but yesterday I got an email from sky saying that due to there being additional damage they have halved the trade in value to £292.50.  I phoned them as O2 warned me about their scam a year ago and I thought o2 were just trying to get me to buy the phone from them instead. Now I know the truth and found out o2 were honest about the sky swap scam. I have phoned sky yesterday and complained but couldn't directly speak to anyone in the sky mobile department that deals with the swaps.  I am hoping for an acceptable resolution in this and will post an update if I get one.  So far no details of what the 'damage' is have been provided but I took pictures of the phone before sending as evidence.  The lady I spoke to at sky said they reduce the value in increments of 25%, 50% and 75%.  So O2 (which the sky network uses) advised me last year that the only way sky will give you the full value is that if you return the phone brand new and never used it! I am deeply upset and distressed by this matter as instead of the £153 to upgrade early I now have to pay them £445.50 to settle the agreement. I've put in a complaint so will update if I get a satisfactory response.

Re: sky mobile swap is basically a scam

This sounds like a job for Trading Standards, I have reported to CAB who say they will pass my case on to TS but Imay not hear back, from TS? Well, I am trawling the forum gathering as many screengrabs as I can before the evidence vanishes. Also MoneySaving Expert website has a section called 'Resolver' they can handle your case for you usually but they don't with Sky, they will do fill in an generate a letter for you Resolver

Re: sky mobile swap is basically a scam

I have just packed up my iPhone 14 pro max to send back to Ingram micro. I had to use the email address which is on the quote that they sent. I've put the I put the IMEI number and a note saying that the phone was photographed and undamaged before I boxed it up.

I have now got the balance of my "after emailing them, this must be a great scam for Ingram Micro get phones in say they were damaged and then sell them on for a huge profit. I am still absolutely disgusted and hope that what I have written here will help other people out. I still wish to carry on my report to trading standards as this cannot go on. I just tried to add an email address for Ingram micro and I got a message that I was not allowed to include the email address which is sky trade in at Ingram , micro all one word with two m's.

Yet another obstacle in the way of helping people to try and sort out this farcical situation.
