lost sim card for unwanted service

I lost my sky sim card last week.

I reported the loss to sky who froze my mobile account.

Thing is, I wanted to leave sky anyway as I never used the service despite activating the original sim card in a handset.

So if I don't activate the new sim, will the unwanted mobile service stay frozen?

Will my sky mobile service be cancelled after a period of being frozen for so many weeks?

Any help and info is most welcome. thank you in advance.

You will continue paying for the phone as usual as cancelling the sim when this happens will have no effect on this.

I would just wait until the Stac has expired and call Sky again about this so do not activate the replacement you have been sent.

@LeoNew

Are you just a sim onloy customer, so you do not have a mobile with Sky, if so have you been with Sky for a year or more ?

Re: lost sim card for unwanted service

I originally purchased a handset with a free sim with data plan as part of the deal.

I have been paying monthly for the handset since 2024.

Sky recently told me the free sim part of the contract/deal had ended and I would now be paying £5 per month extra for the sim plan.

I never use the sim plan and tried to cancel using a stac code, but the the phone provider I do use wouldn't accept the stac.

I called Sky and was told I couldn't cancel manually because I had already asked for a stac code.

Then when I was trying to fit the sky sim into an old handset I had spare, I dropped it and couldn't find it again.

So I reported it lost and a replacement has been sent out.

If I don't activate the new sim when it arrives, will the sim plan stay frozen and the mobile service eventually be cancelled?

As you have had the lost sim since 2024 then you are free to cancel it but not activating this replacement might not cancel this lost one. A Stac code last for 30 days I believe so you might want to try again to get it cancelled after this time.

Re: lost sim card for unwanted service

Thank you for the insight.

So my best option seems to be to activate the sim once the 30 days have passed and the stac code is no longer an issue.

Hopefully then the Sky staff will agree to cancel my sim plan.

Do you know if the handset payments will continue in the meantime?

The handset and sim plan were listed as separate items on the bill, will the mobile service suspension affect this maybe?
