Verification failed" while setting up new iphone

I connected to another phone via hotspot that had active GIffgaff mobile data. That seemed to have worked. I finally got through to the next page after selecting the "Adult" option.

sky mobile and BT broadband so jumped on a neighbours EE with both phones and now set up and working

Absolutely agree with Joanna's post. Was going crazy with verification errors.

went to family members house who have BT internet, all setup and verified within a matter of seconds.

really not happy with this one sky, very poor indeed

Had this issue today - during initial setup my old phone transferred the eSIM to my new phone so I was dead in the water! I have sky broadband and live in a non-fibre area. Here's how I finally resolved the problem:

1 - Forget wifi connection on old device

2 - don't connect to wifi on new device when prompted to find network

3 - login on new device during the initial setup (uses 4g and not the Sky broadband network, should verify icloud account fine)

4 - when old device whinges about having some limitations in quick setup without wifi - just ignore it

5 - transfer data from old device to new device.... takes a good while but it does eventually work!

Has anyone had any resolution from sky about it. It's a bit shocking that they haven't put anything out as a fix or even mentioned it considering so many people are experiencing the same issue.

OMG thought I was going mad........tried several times getting the verification failed message.  I'm not techy so presumed it was me.  So glad I came across this page whilst trying to investigate if other people were having problems.  Am now sat at daughter's house, with another wifi provider,  and watching my phone transferring! Hallelujah.  How bad though that we have all been affected like this with no info.

I don't think it's just sky - my friend had the exact same issue and she's on three. 

Mine just started working when I disconnected from WiFi and let me log into Apple ID.

I'm having the same issues.  I can't even connect  to my hotspot to try the transfer that way. Also tried setting up as new phone and then trying to sign into Apple ID to restore and again, same issue. I am with sky broadband but like I say, I don't appear to be able to tether to my old device either (iPhone 16plus) waiting on Apple calling me back but they said it'll be after lunch tomorrow! Definitely looks to be an Apple bug/glitch but they're keeping very quiet about it!

Is your old device on sky phone network or not?

when you say you can't teather explain whether you mean you don't know how to access the network options on your new phone (I had same issue as the phone was in the setup phase but the Apple support got me to press and briefly hold the on / off switch and a list appeared with the WiFi options tab where I could go in and select the phone hotspot)

My old device is voda and my new device is sky mobile. I'm trying to connect to my old device's personal hotspot to try the workaround people have mentioned, however , when searching for the hotspot it doesn't bring it up as an option to join (yes I have turned the device to discoverable and the hotspot on). Can't believe I've had iPhones since they first came out and never had a data transfer issue like this!

I have even tried a friends WiFi with another provider and still no luck!

I was setting up my girlfrieds new Iphone 17 and iiit just wouldn't work. I found a workaround for this. I uused my sky wifi, but actually made my phone (Samsung S25 Ultra) as aa personanl hotspot, thenn connected her old phone to that as the conneection  and this seems to bypass the sky issue. As soon as I did this, it worked first time! But without your post  I wouldn't  have even realised stupid sky might have been the issue. Even more reason to cancel when my contract is up in december!!

Had problems all day. Eventually gave up and switched it off for a couple of hours. Switched it it back on and it logged in first time ..🤷🏻‍♂️
