We are going to USA and have sky sim contracts. I need to be able to stay in touch with the UK while we are away what is the best way to do this? What will it cost, I have unlimited calls and texts and 2GB data? Thanks

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreTo access your usual package it will cost your £2 per every 24 hours you use you phone(s) and this charge applies to each device. The £2 fee kicks in when you make a call, send a text or use mobile data. You need mobile data and roaming turned on when you arrive to be able to use mobile data.

Thanks for replying, does that mean it will only cost £2 per day because my calls and texts are unlimited if I ring the UK? Sorry if it's a silly question

The £2 charge allows you to access your usual package so if you have unlimited calls and texts when in the UK then you can use them in America.

When you state that each phone will be charged £2/day I assume that's only for phones actually used? Not all phones on the account when the other phones have roaming turned off?

Although the £2 roaming will allow you to access your data allowance and text and call UK numbers that are included, if you text in the USA to a USA mobile or even make a local call in the town you are staying in, Sky will treat this as if you are calling/texting the USA form the UK. I got stung with 75p a text when I was texting my different Air B'n'B owners on my tour of New England 2 weeks ago (and also Sky doubled up the charges on single texts (e.g. I sent one text to a mobile but my bill showed three spearste charfges all for the same time). Also, whilst in the USA we had an Amazon Locker we had arranged at a local Staples in Cape Cod and an 11 minute call to them as I was having issues opening the locker cost me £30.00. They get you one way or another. If tyhere are two of you going then a suggestion is just one of you do Data Roaming and then the other hotspot off the other for data, use free WiFi where you can and use WhatsApp to call each other (if on Wifi).
