Using another network sim

I have a phone co tract with Sky as well as a Sim only contract. 
can I change the Sim only contract to a other provider, but continue with the phone contract. Do I have to have both contracts with Sky until the phone is paid for?

You can use whatever sim your want in the phone so you do not have to use the Sky one.

A Sky sim contract is for 12 months after which you can either cancel or transfer the number elsewhere. Even before the 12 months is up you do not have to have the sim in the phone but you do have to keep paying for it until you cancel or move the number after 12 months.
