Turning off parental control
I am trying to verify that I am indeed over 18, in order to remove the parental
controls on Sky, and be able to access my local cinema site to book tickets. But each time I enter my credit card details as verification as requested, the system rejects it.

Only a credit card will suffice (not a debit card). You can borrow a credit card if you haven't got one yourself, it doesn't have to be yours. The only other way is if you have signed a credit agreement with Sky, then they will already know you are 18 or over so if you call them on 150 they can deactivate this for you.

Are you actually using a credit card as opposed to a debit card as the later would be rejected as anyone under 18 can have one of these. If it is a credit card you have then call Sky on 150 for help with this.

A Debit Card is not a Credit Card even when it has MasterCard or Visa branding. Banks issue debit cards on juvenile as well as adult accounts, and so they cannot be used for age verification: it's the format of the long number which identifies the card type to the Sky system.
