It is pretty poor that they still don't support this, considering Sky utilise O2's network; O2 now offer watch airtime add-on plans.
However, it's baffling, and an unfortunate example of society today, just how many people have to be rude and, embarrassingly, negative just because a company doesn't offer a service.
The fact that some are quoting financial company values is just as embarrassing, and a direct indication of how materialistic people are. Very sad to see 😞. To start with, it's not about "keeping up with the biggest tech company", no wearables are supported, hence why I am, subsequently, also in the group of disappointed people yet to transfer over to Sky Mobile. Do I see the need in ranting, being rude or abhorrently negative? No.
Express your disappointment in this not yet being available and move on. Save your energy for something important and less about material possessions

thank you can i just ask if by doing this it means you pay more for mobile to mobile calls when you ring your daughter as its sky to O2 or visa versa ? a possible downside maybe?

it's never cost me any more as it was all within mine and my daughters contract minutes. The Apple Watch runs off a esim which uses the allowance within your mobile contract allowance . I pay for my daughters mobile phone sim then a few quid more to add the esim on which allows her to use her mobile phone sim allowance within her esim in her watch . You basically paying a few quid more on your mobile sim to use that allowance on your watch.
hope that helps 😊
Not unless anything has changed since we took hers out !

Just chiming in as another disappointed customer that will have to switch providers to access the full functionality of the hardware that's been purchased. Sad to do so as I've had great value from Sky Mobile over the last few years. Cheers for the good times, Sky. I hope you can catch up with other mobile networks in the future.

Despite knowing that Sky had not provided full access to use of Apple Watch facilities i di purchase such a watch in the hope that they wold. Like others, we still have not full access. I too will likley look for another providre.
My husband also has his phone SIM card with them and i am in a recent contract. Presume i have to wait until contract expires??

As referenced elsewhere, Sky is an MVNO and has the same problem with eSIM as almost every other such provider. In the UK the only 'real' cellular network operators are Vodafone, EE, O2 and Three.

Sky rent part of the o2 line so would be that hard from them to negotiate! How ever ultimately Apple should of ensure the service would be open to all providers when making such products for the market ! Even more so that the watch has been around for a number of years now !

I'd suggest Apple are too big to care that much: they just expect markets to change to suit whatever Apple does (hence their eSIM-only version of the iPhone 14 in the USA).

I accept the fact that Sky is an MVNO and I accept that they may be being hamstrung by the underpinning network operator and / or by Apple not supporting MVNOs in this regard. To be honest, I'd like to see supporting evidence that corroborates that line of thought though.
Regardless, the point remains that Apple list roughly 40 service providers globally on their Watch webpage. The onus should be with Sky Mobile to ensure that they make the cut. If they don't do that then unfortunately customers looking for a specific service will find a provider that can meet their needs.
In a similar vein, if your GP can't provide you with emergency appointments, you may switch GPs. That doesn't mean you hate your GP. McDonald's doesn't make a decent spicy chicken wrap, so I go to KFC. Showcase Cinema doesn't have reclining seats in all Screens, so I got to Vue. You get the idea.
