Re: Sky declining credit check for no reason

I think that misses the point, it makes a huge difference, they are happy to talk £xxx a month and put that up

but whatever their system us it's wrong

ignoring not needing a nanny state check, , I would get it if there was an issue but perfect score means no credit risks. Great track record with Sky etc there's no risk factor. But what I think, like the original poster, is it's their system. An address error or in spelling mistake and your penalised

their loss as I've already gone to another provider and am about to cancel all Sky so they get no more money

plus I bought what they would sell me

It's also bad they jump straight to hard credit searches

@Mishro There is no such status as "No credit risk" , your credit score isn't the only factor taken in to account when lenders make a decision, they look at the amount of open credit accounts on your file and if that number exceeds their acceptance criteria you will be declined, regardless of whether you can afford it.

If you have entered any details wrongly then that's on you, its not the fault of Sky or their system, they reject when errors are made to prevent fraud(all providers that offer any credit will do the same).

Sorry to drag up an old chain but it's still happening.  Perfect credit score but was refused a £1/month phone contract.

The check involves more than just the 'credit score'.  Chances are there was something that has mismatched in the check (such as addresses) which has declined it.

Re: Sky declining credit check for no reason

That's what I'm thinking.  I've just seen on MoneySavingExpert forum

"I got to the bottom of the problem! The address database is different from the one used by Experian and my addresses had to be corrected to what they have but their database is inaccurate. One address is seen as one house when in fact it has a total of 4 individually numbered flats. Hence the discrepancy"

The county I live in can be written in more than one way so I'm guessing its something to do with that.

Amazing that I could get a mortgage for considerably more than £1/month.

I'm the same. Apparently I'm a VIP customer (infactI have two separate accounts at two addresses), I was declined credit for £699 with no reason given yet my credit score is 938 whihc I believe is good. It's outrageous especially as SKY don't explain! 😞

@Morse666
If you contact Sky they would be able to confirm that’s the reason your order was cancelled but NOT why you failed the credit check in the first place as they are not allowed to view your credit record. You would have to sign up to a credit reference agency like Experian or Equifax, which would give you access to your credit record.

Address 'mismatches' can cause credit issues.  The score alone is only indicative on how likely you will be accepted for credit but other checks are made such as affordability.  https://www.sky.com/help/articles/credit-checks-sky-mobile

Re: Sky declining credit check for no reason

I get that, but I'm a CEO of a group of companies (for 34 years) so affordabillty has never been an issue and thus it can't possibly be recorded as such anywhere sufficient for it to be 'the' reason SKY bounced me. I appreciate your point though.

Then the most likely explanation is addresses not matching 'correctly'.  If you call Sky they may be able to given an indication.

Re: Sky declining credit check for no reason

This has happened to me as well VIP diamond member of 21 years have had 5 handsets previously and now they have declined an upgrade. My credit score is high and I have spoken to Equifax who have advised that I insist on a manual review by Sky, believe me, they are reluctant to do this but stick to your guns as they have to then give you an answer. I have found out that Sky have left a previous address on my account from 20 years ago as they only updated the shipping address and home address when I moved. So if something occurred at that old address in the last 2 years since they last gave me a phone would that be what has affected this?
Besides this though their customer service is appalling and the don't care attitude speaks volumes, it's different when they want you to take on Sky Sports or upgrade a TV package.
