Re: Sky Mobile Ireland not fit for service yet, many problems
Seriously regretting moving from Vodafone but I will be going back fast. I got conned and ended up with a **bleep** LTE service!

It's so shockingly bad. I can't believe sky are doing demand generation on it.

Is LTE the same as 4G?
The terms 4G and LTE are interchangeable. Some phones/networks will display LTE and others will show 4G.

Re: Sky Mobile Ireland not fit for service yet, many problems
I attempted to sign up to Sky Mobile and they couldn't activate the SIM card for me after multiple attempts online and on the phone. That was a huge red flag and I dread what mess they would have made of porting my number across. I'll reconsider after 12 months when I can see how others fare with them.

Xenon81 you haven't a clue!!!
It's 2G, Sky's carrier Vodafone have switched off 3G. Data is switched off during 2G calls also, so no browsing or maps while calling. Ideally you use 4g calling aka VoLte, but Sky botched this and it's not showing on numerous phones, lots of threads devoted to it. WiFi calling also not showing, so a double whammy.

Re: Sky Mobile Ireland not fit for service yet, many problems
I had exactly the same issue with roaming in the Netherlands while in transit to Paris on 8th November. 3 phone calls to Sky because each one gave me an instruction that cut the call (yes, I should have known better than to blindly follow instructions!) and 3 different people who each gave me different instructions and had no knowledge of previous calls. Got to Paris and all seemed to be fine. On way back through Amsterdam in 14th November seemed to have data but it intermittently disappeared .
Then went to Singapore and Malaysia for two weeks and got an eSIM so turned data roaming off for sky and on for eSIM when I got there and all was good. Landed back in Amsterdam and turned on data roaming and seemed ok but took a while to get a data connection. Got back to Ireland and nothing worked. Could not connect to voice or data . Spent an hour trying every mobile option in the phone. Disabled eSIM and then deleted it. Provider seemed to be stuck on tele2 whoever that is. Found options to change to Sky and then randomly went into services options and settings (that all seem to now not exist but maybe I'm losing my mind) and finally got connected.
Thankfully I was making my own way home and not having to make a call to someone to come get me.
Upshot is there is something very not right with roaming even to the point it leaves your phone in a state when it gets back home.

Re: Sky Mobile Ireland not fit for service yet, many problems
That sounds remarkably similar to my experience, and we're away in the same area of the Netherlands this weekend, so it's going to be interesting to see what happens, in theory, they've been working on these issues, but the proof of the pudding will be if we can get a service without problems, and at this stage, I'm not interested in messing around for hours, if I can't get the things working the way they are supposed to , and 30 odd years of using mobiles across Europe and the UK is long enough to know how it's supposed to be, I will be pulling the plug on the mobile service, and possibly the broadband as well, at the age I am now, I don't need the raised blood pressure and hassle of trying to sort out problems, it really is that simple these days, get it right or I move to another supplier, it's not like it's a free service, we're paying for it, so it HAS to work.
The issue with the roaming is possibly down to how they set up the Access Point Name system, and that's an area of Android that I don't know enough about, which is problematic, as it seems that Sky don't fully understand it either, there's a Sky.ie app that appeared on the phone, but nobody knows much about it.
I too had problems with the .se file, it also confused Google, I had text coming up on the screen in what I think was Swedish, because of that issue, so it will be interesting to see what happens with this. This is effectively make or break weekend, it took over a month for the tech people to sort out that we couldn't receive incoming international calls from the UK, (Sky UK to add insult to injury) so their track record is not exactly good at the moment.

You asked if 4G and LTE are the same thing, which they are. That's why 4G Calling is also known as VoLTE.

Sky mobile customer service is shockingly bad
I had an eSIM with sky mobile for 2 days before I lost my phone but when I rang up and tried to get a replacement eSIM, they cant do such a thing so they had to send me out a physical sim, which defeats the purpose of an eSIM to start with but how or never. I asked to speak to someone with more experience or a manager but this wasn't an option apparently. I would have thought since an eSIM is all online they can sort me out, and save me the hassle of going in store. That's why I went with an eSIM to start with for convenience but there is nothing convenient about sky mobile.
I then tried to go in store to a sky store 30 minutes from me, hoping they could just give me a physical sim then and there and sort me out but they don't stock SIM card in store! How can a company selling sim contracts and phones not stock sims in store? So anyways I had no other option and had to get a physical sim ordered and wait the 3-5 days.
3-5 days later the sim arrived, happy days you'd think but no of course nothing would be straightforward with this company. The QR code on the sim activation card doesn't work, so I rang them to get them to do it manually. I was on the phone to 3 different people, explaining I have a sky activation code and the new sim number but apparently they couldn't do anything to activate it as it was not showing as delivered on the system. I explained that I can give them the details but they physically didn't have an option on their end to activate this sim for me because it was not registered to my account yet. Hence why I was trying to give them the activation code and sim number but this wasn't an option apparently. I tried to get them to put me through to somebody higher up in the company or someone with more experience but they couldn't / wouldn't do this, hence me ringing 3 different people.
I was told I'd have to wait until the sim shows up in my account as delivered instead of dispatched. I was told this would take 48 hours, it's now 4 days later and the sim finally isn't showing as dispatched anymore but it's not showing as deliveried either, it's just saying I have no recent orders. So I will ring them tomorrow morning and try this again but I have very little faith that they will be able to sort this issue for me. They'll probably tell me I've never ordered a sim because I have no recent ordered on my account.
I'll update this tomorrow / when or if I ever get this issue resolved.
If anyone is thinking of going with sky mobile, I highly recommend you reconsider. Atleast if you are with a more established mobile contract provider you can walk in store and get sorted out on the spot, usually. Personally if sky can ever sort out my sim for me, I will be changing contracts straight away to a more established company. I'd honestly rather pay double the price sky charge for some quality customer service, if I need to available of any in the future. You'd be surprised how much you rely on your phone number.
To be continued..

Re: Sky mobile customer service is shockingly bad
Hi.
do you have access to the MySky app? On mobile it says that you can order a replacement eSIM as I had to do this today. I got the eSIM QR & Activation code through within around 2-5 mins.
just incase this helps 🙂

Re: Sky mobile customer service is shockingly bad
Hi,
Thanks for replying.
Yes I have the app but every time I tried to order a replacement sim myself, I get an error. The app is useless for me as anything I try do I get an error, I don't think it's supported properly in Ireland yet.

Re: Sky Mobile Ireland not fit for service yet, many problems
I've had a complete nightmare with them too. On Thursday night I joined up assuming it would be easy as with every other network. Given the proximity to Christmas I chose the eSIM option. A huge error. It was apparently activated and ported my new number yesterday but I had no coverage all day. The guy on WhatsApp said it would work today or to contact them today. Their WhatsApp won't be online till Monday. An absolute shambles.
