Ported number to wrong sim card

Please can someone help. Myself and my partner both signed up to sky talk last week..

My sim card arrived yesterday, called them, ported over my number and that was so straight forward.

My partners sim card arrived today, called them to port his number to the new sim card... to my horror my phone went dead.

She ported HIS phone number over to MY SIM CARD and not the new one.  My  phone number is now not on any sim card. Please someone tell me I can get my number back. Called and they said they would phone me within 24 hours. I'm fuming that I may have lost a number that I've had for almost 20 years and is associated with alot of medical things for my child. Please tell me my phone number isn't gone. Been a sky customer for years for tv and only signed up for broadband and mobiles last week. Tempted to cancel the whole lot I'm so annoyed. Can anyone help please

I'm confused.

Sky Talk is Sky's landline phone service. Sky Talk is bundled with Sky Broadband.

It has nothing to do with Sky Mobile.

I have moved this to the Sky Mobile forum (and removed your duplicate).

You will have to see what they come back to you, if indeed they do call you back and if they don't you will need to chase them up but it could well be that the number is gone and can not be retrieved.

Re: Ported number to wrong sim card

Sorry I posted in the wrong place... oh I will absolutely be chasing them about it.. I was thinking because my number was with them and they were my provider then they could just send me a replacement sim with my mobile number... same situation as if my sim card got damaged ect

I can understand what you are thinking but I'm sure that a replacement sim would come with the number was ported to it so the last number that was on it.

SIM's are not associated with a number until they are activated (either as a new or replacement).

Numbers are allocated from a pool.  Any porting in will put the 'old' number into the pool.

The exact technical details will be something Sky will need to investigate as they may not be able to recover the number.  (In theory the number could be recoverable if not re-allocated to someone else - but bear in mind no one 'owns' a number)

Awh I'm just fuming and so upset about this now. My WhatsApp is still working with my phone number too. Still able to receive texts and calls on that. Not sure how that's working if my number is gone.

Re: Ported number to wrong sim card

Also would they not have to imput the number into a replacement sim? Couldn't they just put mine on it?

Because WA uses data and not cellular.  (But the number is associated with the account)

The usual activation process assigns a number on the fly.  Whether Sky can circumvent this is only something they can advise on...

I hope I am wrong @Thornsj  but normally once a sim is overwritten then the number that's been overwritten is gone and can't be recovered. As advised you will need to call sky to see what they can do. When prompted I would ask to speak to cancellations.

Re: Ported number to wrong sim card

Update!!!!

Spoke to sky and now I've been told they have "escalted" my case to the porting team and I will have a call back in the next two days. I was assured that they will get my number back for me which I didn't believe to be true. Took her name also on what she had said. I did ask to be put through to cancellations but she pleaded with me to wait the two days. I'm well withing my cooling off period so I will absolutely cancel if they don't resolve this
