Phone call regarding a new SIM card

Hi , I recieved a phone call which they said it was sky but they said that they were blocking my current SIM card and sending me a new one out. When I asked why they said because of the complaints they have recieved about costs and things not working with the old SIM card .. I feel this was a bit strange the only details I gave was my email address but they were wanting me to put them on speaker and open up apps which I just hung up as I felt it was strange.

wanted to see if anyone had this phone call before and if my SIM card will actually be blocked? I'm sure it's just a scam tried to get through on phone but took too long and the virtual assistant didn't have any answers for me

thanks

Jenny

@jpearson93  It sounds like a scam to me, Sky would never call you like this nor would they block your sim card unless you specifically requested it from them.

Hi @jpearson93  this is definitely a scam. They get information from you which gives access to your account. They then order devices that are delivered to you then next day a courier arrives to take them back to sky, but they go to the scammer. If new phones arrive in the next day or two then don't give them to anyone before talking to sky who will help sorting it. You could also go to your account now and change your password just to be sure.

They shouldn't be able to anything @jpearson93 but as I mentioned I would change my password.

With an email address only there's not a lot they can do...

However, they may try and access your account using known passwords.  You hung up, but the latest scam is they ask you to give them the 'forgot password' code they initiate which gives them full access to your account.

But as noted, change your password to something unique and enable 2FA.

Re: Phone call regarding a new SIM card

I've received one of these calls. Claiming my SIM card will be deactivated but they will

also reduce my bill by 30% for 12 months and also give me the choice of a free Apple Watch or a Apple ear buds. Called me again today asking for my bank details before the can send my new sim. Now blocked!

Re: Phone call regarding a new SIM card

I have just had the same phone call and I hung up within seconds another call came through different number but this actually came up as suspected scam number.   I've only had the SIM and number a week or so. How have they got my number already. It's not on any websites or nothing so it couldn't have been sold to a 3rd party  only people who have it is 6 friends and sky  i have not given it out to anyone else

@RachyNa

You might have only had this number for a week but as there are only a limited number of phone numbers there is a chance that someone had this one before you.
