Recently bought an iPad and want to put my iPhone phone number on it so I can receive calls ect via iPad how do I do it

You can't.

The iPad is not a phone.  (It does not  have the cellular hardware to make/take calls - or SMS messages)

You can make calls and send messages via data services - i.e. FaceTime, iMessage, WhatsApp etc.....
