Unfortunately your 48 hour window coincided with a very busy weekend where I didn't have a window!
issue still not resolved. Please reopen the opportunity for chat help over the next two days when I will have a chance to join in. Thank you

What a painfully slow process Sky's chat is. Carrier pigeon would be quicker. 24 hours into the '48 hour window' and all that's happened is an account verification form being sent, completed by me and returned.
Hours go by with no response and, as a customer, I'm expected to keep logging in to see if there's a response. Ridiculous process. Meanwhile any calls I receive/don't pick up are still being informed my number is unavailable

So following a long drawn out online chat Friday the Sky advisor said they needed to run the issue by somebody else and to keep the 48 hours 'active' I needed to log in again which I did Saturday afternoon.
This morning, logging in again and it appears the chat has been closed before 48 hours is up.
Will be sourcing a new phone, with a different carrier. This post is simply to save anybody else wasting their time trying to get a solution to this problem.
