New sim

Have just ordered a new phone and the replacement sim seems to be taking forever to activate. So in the meantime am not able to make or receive any calls. Has anyone else experienced this? Does anyone have any idea of how long I might have to wait?

@LucindaM

Usually it should activate more or less straight away so if it hasn't by tomorrow then you will need to get in touch with Sky by either calling them if you have another phone or via one of their social media sites like Facebook Messenger or WhatsApp.

Why are you activating the SIM as a replacement?  (This is for when you lose a SIM or it stops working)

You should simply move the existing SIM from old to new phone.

Any new plan you ordered will have a new phone number...

Re: New sim

Thanks so much for this. Am actually starting a new plan, so they've sent me a new sim. But might try the old sim for the time being and see what happens.

A new plan has a new phone number.

You've probably snookered yourself as the old SIM will be deactivated.  You'll have to wait for the replacement to kick into life.  (It will have your existing number and old data plan)

Activating the new dataplan will mean you are paying for two plans.

Re: New sim

Thank you, had actually asked to keep my old number on the old plan, but looks like I might have to ring for clarification if things don't click in by the morning. Thanks again for your help.

Unless Sky are prepared to apply the new dataplan to the existing SIM then the new plan will have a new number.

The only other option is a protracted workaround requiring the number being ported out of the network and back again to the new SIM.
