New sim

Hi I am trying to  activate my sim I put it in to my phone and it asked me for my activation code which is 6 numbers and letters it said that it was 6 numbers and letters under the box but when I did that a red line came up saying I need 7 but there was no 7th letter or number . And also there is no one to talk to except that computer thing that's knows nothing. So I have just abandoned the whole thing and out my Vodafone card back in. How can you do business with some one that you can't talk to.
