New number belongs to someone else already

Anyone else taken out a new sim contract, activated it and then receive someone else's texts because the number is already in use with sky mobile?!

This happens on all networks as all mobile numbers are recycled as there are only so many of them so from what you have said it appears that the number you have got was with someone else previously so all you can do is to call Sky on the free 150 number and explain this to them and ask them to cancel this one and issue you with another one that will come with a different number.

The number is still active and being used by a lady - she answered the call when I rang my daughter! I was receiving her texts on my daughters phone!

 

anyway, I phoned and they just removed the sim and are sending us a new one. Just a bit concerning for the customer who's number we got - she wasn't happy us receiving her private communications.
