New Sim Activation & Other Issue

So I have an iphone with an eSim from Sky. My sim contract ran out and I chose a new deal. I was sent a pysical sim card. I tried to activate it online, and like other posts I have seen, it asks for a PAC code to keep my phone number, even though I am a Sky customer already. I also tried clicking 'Activate replacement sim' and it said it has worked, but my phone is getting no signal.

I rang the Sky help line and the man on the end said I would need to change my number to get the new physical sim card to work. I said that was not happening as I have had this phone number for decades. He said instead I could take a 50% discount on a new deal on my old eSim instead.  He then said I should have a text message from Sky with a 6 digit pin. I said I had reicevd it. He asked what the pin number was and I refused to give it to him as the text message clearly states "Do not share this code with anyone". He sounded a bit frustrated so I hung up.

For clarity, the number I called was from the Sky website help page.

So I now have a useless phone where my e-sim doesn't work and my new sim won't work. Also, why are Sky team members asking me for a pin number from a text message that clearly says "do not share this code with anyone" 😡

Any new dataplan you choose will have a new phone number.  You cannot use a PAC code within a network.

If you activated the new SIM as a replacement then it will be for your existing dataplan - it may take some time to activate on the new SIM.

AIUI you should not share any such code - but we have no idea what's going on behind the scenes...

My sim contract ran out ....

Just to be clear, contract's don't 'run out'.  Minimum terms expire...

You should use 150 from a working Sky SIM.

@AlanB1234

It is perfectly safe giving the call handler the code as more companies send these to their customers as an extra security check.

As you have activated it as a replacement all you have done it to move the same number you already hsbe to this replacement sim.

You shouldn't need to a pac code to just activate a sim as that is only required when s number is being moved between two different networks.

You are going to have to call Sky again about this to at the very least cancel the sim you have activated as the chances are it will not be on the plan you agreed with Sky.

@Fahykola20

To get you some help with this I have escalated your post to the Sky Messaging team who should be in touch with you regarding this via a blue/red chat bubble which will appear at the bottom of this page. It can take up to a few hours to be contacted via this.

This link explains how this works so you will need to respond to the chat bubble at the bottom of the page when it appears by typing it it to start the chat:

https://community.sky.com/t5/Did-you-know/Escalating-a-post-to-a-Sky-expert/ba-p/3711147

When the chat bubble does appear you will need to respond to it as soon as you can or it will be closed if there is no response within 48 hours. To start the conversation just type in it.
This isn't a live chat so replies may not be instant.

Re: New Sim Activation & Other Issue

This! This is why I posted this thread. Happened when I tried to activate my wife's sim and then with mine. It's so utterly confusing. The first issue, is it a 'new' sim or a 'replacement' sim. Both are viable options. Choose wrong and it's game over. Next issue is you can't keep your number as when you type in the PAC code, it says "this number is already linked with Sky". I gave up in the end and joined Three 😅.
