My Austistic sons phone intermittently gives incorrect number when we try to ring him! He can't make calls. Even using WhatsApp!

This has happened before. ITS VERY IMPORTANT WE CAN KEEP IN CONTACT WITH HIM. From discussions this is a COMMON problem, though from SKY  disscusdions response, it seems SKY is hiding the issue as I can't find a resolution despite NUMEROUS people with the EXACT same issue.

The discussion I started said I was the FIRST WITH THE ISSUE!!

I take it he hasn't returned from abroad recently has he ?

Hi, Problem solved.

We switched his phone off/ on!!!

Iphone 8.

This was strange because clearly this is a network issue, not the phone?

His phone had Sky symbol with 3 or 4 bars. So it appeared connected to network.

It didn't give 'no signal' or 'no network'Ì message.

WE, get the message "incorrect number" when trying to ring him.

THEREFORE! NETWORK ISSUE, NOT PHONE.!

When HE tries to call, the phone attempts to ring, then cuts off.

WhatsApp calls are the sam,.

EVERYONE, gets 2 rings then disconnects trying to call out.

HE, sees the Whatsapp call, but can't answer it.

WhatsApp messages get through OK!

I'd observe the iPhone 8 is was released over seven years ago, so is way past the point most such hardware would be expected to be replaced: average smartphone lifespan is under three years.  Its operating system will also be long out of support by Apple, and current apps might well struggle.

A phone is a phone, this isn't Smart functions, it's just making telephone calls.

It has to be a network issue, why else would the network not recognise a telephone no.?

Why would we INTERMITTENTLY! get message FROM NETWORK that we've dialled an 'INCORRECT NUMBER' then it sorts itself out when the phone is switched off/on.

How does a number get de-registered from the network?

A smartphone is a computer, and this is an out-of-date one.

'Telephone calls' to a smartphone relate to analogue telephony in the way a horse and cart is an ancestor of a Jaguar E-Pace.

WhatsApp is not telephony at all.

Why would the NETWORK tel me I've dialed an INCORRECT no.!

The NETWORK decided the number was no longer valid! If my son's phone was out of coverage or off, the NETWORK wouldn't tel me the number is incorrect.

The phone was de registered by the NETWORK . for some reason.

Other people have had same issues with newer IPhones AND androids. Checkout the discussions.

The same happened before, about 3 years ago. The glitch is network related.

People still have even OLDER phones working on the network.

If its an old phone issue, why is it random and intermittent? It would either work, or not.
