Mobile returns policy - 31 days or 14 days?

My device-only plan contract says I need to inform Sky within 14 days (cooling off period) beginning the day after the day of delivery if I wish to cancel my contract and return my device.

Alternatively, on the 'Returns' section of the Sky Mobile website it states:

Changed your mind? No problem – just return your device to us within 31 days of it being delivered to get a refund. The next part mentions to do this the first step is notify Sky I wish to return the device.

https://www.sky.com/help/articles/sky-mobile-phone-or-tablet-refund

It's not perfectly clear (at least to me) what the timescale is to return a device. Can anyone shed any light?

Also, if it is 14 days beginning the day after delivery, is that 14 business days or does it include weekends?

Thanks

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out more

It could be you have 14 days to contact Sky to thell them you have changed your mind and 31 days to actually return the device.

@caesarome

(BTW - I'm aware you don't work for Sky, just looking to bounce this off another forum member incase I've missed something)

The Sky returns website and the contract do not match in any way.

My phone is a device-only plan - no monthly sim plan. If I click "return my device" on my account, it takes me to the following page:

https://www.sky.com/help/articles/sky-mobile-phone-or-tablet-refund

That page, in summary says:

  • If you've changed your mind, you can return your device within 31 days of delivery to get a refund.
  • You must notify Sky during this time in writing or over the phone.
  • After you have notified Sky, you have 14 days to return the device.
  • If you don’t return it within 14 days, we’ll cancel any refunds and, if you have a pay monthly phone, tablet or laptop with a credit agreement, your monthly payments will carry on.

My contract just states I have a cooling off period of 14 days beginning the day after delivery in which I can inform Sky I wish to cancel the contract, I then have to return the phone (although it doesn't specify how long I have to return it).

Confusing right?

It could be that the 31 day return thing is an additional amount of time Sky give for general "change of mind", and that the contract is just the standard cooling off period wording (14 days is the legal minimum).

The fact the returns page specifically mentions pay monthly devices and credit agreements makes it more confusing.

It's also possible the 14 day right of withdrawal/cooling off period applies only to sim-only/monthly airtime plans and not device-only plans as I know the contracts for both are basically the same
