Getting charged abroad when my mobile data is switched off!

Why is sky continuously charging me £2 for sending a text message when I'm on WiFi and have mobile data turned off?

Because roaming is more than data.

You are clearly connecting to cellular.  Put the phone in flight mode.

Then that could be why you are incurring charges @Dc1270  sending a text message will trigger the charge as will making a call or using a small amount of data.

Then you are using cellular service that counts as roaming.  (SMS)

That will trigger the roaming passport.

Alternatively, use a data-based method such as WhatsApp if the recipient has same.

Thanks for your replies but this £2 charge is really pushing my buttons as sky don't need to be charging this as we are essentially using o2 network that doesn't charge for using data etc abroad and I can't wait for my contract to be finished with sky as i will all be leaving sky!

Whilst Sky may be MVNO on o2 network that's go nothing to do with the charging regime.

Indeed, whilst roaming you won't be using o2's network...
